Is the SE Pro still commonly for sale in the US as a new detector?

It's no longer available here in Oz as far as I can see. It seems that the local stores fazed it out when the E-Trac came onto the market. I got to use an E-Trac today but felt that it's simply too heavy to swing at length and I'm not interested in trying to compensate for the weight.

I'm glad to hear it. I asked one of the larger dealers over here just after the E-Trac came out and he said that Minelab had stopped making the Explorer. I know of a second hand SE not too far from home that is up for sale at the moment, but would rather buy a new one when my XS dies, but if they weren't available anymore, then I'd buy that now.

The E-Trac is no heavier than the Explorer Pro but with better ballance so I must be missing something here

the E-trac is heavier than the SE Pro. 4 pounds verses 4.8 pounds. I'd prefer to use the E-Trac as far as it's technology goes, but there is too much dead weight there even though it is better balanced. I'd like to be able to hunt for longer periods and after swinging the E-trac on Saturday I think that the weight will too much to be comfortable with. I hope that Minelab will develop lighter FBS detectors soon.

That 15 degree change in the handle positioning on the Etrac has made ALL the (favoreable) balance difference on those two detectors (IMO).---I was just answereing the question--if you want a new SE--yes, new ones are still availeable in the U.S. (SE's are still in production)--and I don't think Minelab has any plans of stopping production on them.--------Del

Thanks Del. Although the change in angle is a good thing, when I used the E-trac, I found that the extra weight was quite noticable. For me, it's just too heavy. I had hoped that when Minlab brought it out, that they would have made a lighter weight detector. After all, wasn't that why they made the pro coil. It was a backwards move in my books.
Anyway, that's the way I see it.
