Is there any way to figure out what this is?

Took the Explorer for a walk today, after digging pull tabs and junk for an hour decided to head home, right before I turned the detector off I got this deep signal. This was down 15" in a dried up lake. It is copper, a little bigger than a half dollar and a little smaller than a silver dollar. I thought it was a token but after washing the dirt off I see the bust of a head on the front with a couple letters faintly visible, I cant see any date but there is some kind of small head on the back similiar to a seated coin. Is there anything I would be able to do to get some ideas? Thanks for any help. Happy Hunting!!

two cent piece. Do a google search of British Cartwheel and you will find a photo of the Obv and Rev, that is my best guess based on the size and what you describe.

Try this link also :)

That looks like it could very well be a possibility. I wish I could make out some more detail on it. Thanks for the help. Good Luck Hunting!!

I do believe you are 100% correct, after looking at the pictures and the coin I found, the letters match up, the ones I can see anyway and it is a very heavy piece of copper. Thanks again for all your help!!

for the very patient:
use Extra V. olive oil soak for days, weeks, sometimes months. Sometimes olive oil is enough to get detail and is gentlier than baking soda.

If impatient (like me in many cases) or olive oil fails:
I use toothbrush, baking soda and water. Make paste and scrub coin till patina comes off. keep rinsing and then more paste with toothbrush. It takes green crud right off with some pressure. You'll usually be left with a slight impression of coins detail and be able to see what you have. Sometimes if coin is slightly wet - you can see detail under light.
