i've bounced around on this sight for about a week and half now i'm starting to wonder if there's any life out here? or is everybody gone to try the new f-75 ltd?jurst currious where are the 1200 series users out here

I'm with you Dude, just about gave up on this site, it's either F-75 or nothing. Must just be me and you that own the 1200 series, can't get anything going on my posts. I answer other posts even if there not 1270 but can help the other person. Its a bummer

1236x2's are a discontinued item, and most current users have no idea what your talking about. The same for the 1270, but it's still being produced in limited numbers.

There are some that still use one, the other, or both. They are specialized detectors that do an exceptional job. The 1236 is a real good hunter in the trash, and the 1270 is tough to beat for max depth in all metal.

Stay loose, someone will jump in with some info for you.

well discontinued or not on ebay they are selling still pretty well the ones that are left over new and or refurbished i wish i could afford a brand new 1270 and i'm currious just how much deeper would the f-75 ltd be against this 1270 because for the money of the f-75 i don't think it's that much deeper

but I've owned 2 of them... Bill is correct on how well the 1236 hunts in a trash laiden ground.. I've also used it at a salt-water beach and walking down into the wet salt portion of the sand didn't effect it nearly as bad as other vlfs I had tried....Some falsing occured near the very water line.... Depth in the sand, I was recovering coins as deep as 8-9 inches with good signals... Land hunting, itwas finding coins easily at 5-6 inches... and I'm sure it would see them deeper, I just didn't walk across any..

I think the detector operates fine for land and/or beach hunting.

Just my II cents. Mark ( ohio )

I've been reading this forum pretty steadily for about the last 5 years. There has never been much posted on the 1270 during that time; however, there has at times been quite a bit of posts on the 1236x2. I think the last time there was a good series on that machine was a year or two back--- perhaps when people became aware that FT was discontinuing the model and some wanted to know if they should get some of the last ones while they still could??? Search the archives here and you'll find some useful stuff on the 1236x2.

You're right about people going gaga over the latest models and only wanting to talk about them. That happens on every forum as each brand brings out new machines. I have a couple of CZ's myself (as well as other brands besides Fisher) and none of the 1200 series, so I'm afraid I can't help you personally.

I think in 2010 I'm going to put some small coils on the CZ's and go back over some of my old sites with 0 disc and see if I can't come up with some pics to post as contributions to the CZ forum. I get tired of all the 'F75 this' and 'F75 that' stuff myself.

and this is whats really funny the ratings on the generation 1 f-75 on metal detector reviews only gets a 3.8 and the 1236x2 gets a 4.8 now whats up with that? and already i've seen the new f-75ltd being sold off in the second hand market for right around $800 to $900 so there is a select few that can run them and this is simalar to the whites vision 3, i think people buy hard into this hype thinking oh i've got a screen how can i go wrong well like i saidthere is a select few like bill ladd and a few others that can run these machines because of the years of understanding that follows when you watch the video's they make it look easy in lot of cases and therefore pulling you in for the sale this is just a marketing technique in my view but there will be some to argue this i think people have bought into this well this is old technology so whats being offered now must be better attitude and simple is just for beginners now take Tesoro for instance they have probably some of the simplest machines to run on the market and they offer the lifetime warranty to boot and i'm not sure how long they put out a new offering but they seem like a company that if it works don't fix it, they must be doing something right, now since first texas has taken over what do they give for a warranty on the f-75 5 years i think if this product is so superior why don't offer the life time as well, i guess what i'm getting at is not always the new technology is the answer and you will see people come back to whats tried and true not all but quite a few!

i too am sick of the f 75 hype. it might be a good machine, but i have no desire to own one. i have used the 1200 series fisher machines since around 1980 or so and personally think they are some of the best machines ever made. i rember getting my first 1260 fisher.....i thought i'd died and gone to heaven. this new first texas stuff looks cheaply built to me....but the price sure don't reflect that. how long is it going to take to even come close to paying for a 1100.00 to 1300.00 dollar detector? a few guys will get lucky and find a couple coins or rings that will cover their investments, but the average coin hunter will be a long time trying to make his detector pay for itself.

The 1236x2 is a good detector other than a terrible design battery compartment and door's. The 1270 is a work horse a great detector. The last fisher's i bought was a 1270 and cz3d.But i think every one's looking for the holy grail detector.sorry but i am not going to waste my time with all the bell's and whistle's and trying to anialize a signal.I dig every thing, that's the only way you are going to get the good stuff.and don't think i will be getting a f-series.HH. Bill-NC.

In 1988 I bought a 1265X. Finally "up-graded" {or so-I thought!?!} to a "used" CZ70 PRO this summer... Still using the 1265, I cant put it down...No confidence in the cz, have spent hours with it but it hasnt proven its better in any other way than my old 1265 and pinpointing with the CZ70 SUCKS after the hole is dug and your kneeling and sifting through the dirt for the item,I'm NOT about to buy a hand-held pinpointer . Maybe in another 20 years I'll bring myself around to trying out an F75!?!......I would consider a 1270 for sure if I really needed a new one...

all right gentle men you guys are showing me there is some life left in 1200 series forum thats awsome looking for anyones pesonal review of the 1270 and there deepest finds just comparing notes! thanks for all who responds

I had both the 1236X-2 and 1270.Yep the 1336X-2 is still a giant killer one of my favorite metal detectors. The 1200 series detector was a good line up but the new company chose a different direction with their product line.If I was going to choose a back pack unit the 1236X-2 would still be my first choice. The CZs are great units but like iron and require four way hits in older areas.Back to the 1236X-2 this detector can still hold it own performance wise, just doesn't have the clutter of all the bells and whistles. The little Fisher isn't ready for the retirement home yet and still can produce some good finds.Later HH Ron

so in your opinion how much depth does the 1270 punch through vs the 1236 and have you tried the 10.5 " coil on the 1236?

The 1266 and 1270 are deeper by a couple of inches but the 1236 is much better in trash at finding coins.I used the 5 inch coil with good results and even had the Fisher in line probe to help pinpoint. The 1236X-2 has very good depth and probably could hold its own as a decent relic detector, but the 1266 and 1270 would out class it in this department.I never used the Fisher 10 inch coil that much. With different frequencies detectors see objects different the 1236 is just the right combination.By the way it has found silver missed by my Minelabs.HH Ron

that is what i want to hear thanks for sharing your expertise here for sure, so on a good day you could pluck out a 10" coin possibly with the 1236x2? i've been a tesoro man for so long i've got to try these and i like the fisher style of pinpoint as well

AMC,I had a Tesoro Cibola before the 1236X-2 and without starting a war the 1236X-2 worked much better for me.Some user's like the silence mode but the clicks and pops with a round signal was like music.Again this detector isn't for everyone, but it is a nice non complicated metal detector that is competitive and makes the hunt fun.HH Ron

About 3 years ago I decided to upgrade my Tesoro Bandito uMax to something to match it's trash rejection ability, but with more depth. My short list came down to a Cibola or a 1236X2. I thought the 1236 offered the better price value, and I liked Fisher's 5 inch coil over Tesoro's 5.75 coil for seperation. I could also get a used 4 inch coil for the 1236, but not for the Cibola.

After using the 1236 for a while I ran a number of field test on it comparing it to a CZ7Apro, and a Fisher 1266. The 1236 and 1266 were consistanly dead on in depth when set up the same with the same coils. The 1236 does lose a little depth when in the quite mode, which the 1266 does not have. The CZ7A pro was about an Inch to an inch and a half deeper, but not as fast a 1236.

My only picks on the machine is with the weight of the 8 inch coil, and the battery compartments, but overall a very well built, tough, high performance machine. Ther are also a lot of great coils out there that will work on these.

By the way I did finally buy a Cibolo too, overall I like the 1236 a bit better. About the only real advantage for the Cibola is light weight, and better battery life, otherwise they are real close in performance.

hey there thats awsome i like the reports that i'm seeing for sure with the 1236x2 hey there garwha have ever tried yours out on salt water or sand?
