Is there only one field test out there on the f5 ?

Just wondering how people are doing with it ? What kind of depth are you getting out of it since it's the top of the line for the midrange detectors? I'd think it would be better in all area's. Don't see much out there on it.
 
There was a copy of a post from an external(not Findmall) forum posted on the Findmall BH forum that is attributed to Dave Johnson. However whether he wrote it would have to be confirmed with him.

In that post he purportedly made the following statement:

"The Omega circuitry and software are a major revision of the Fisher F5, which although it was a bit slow to "catch on", is now getting good reviews." Which seems to indicate that F5 sales have been disappointing. And that "they" FT are ready to move on with the introduction of the Teknetics Omega since it is noted above as a "major revision of the Fisher F5."

So if the above post is correctly proved to be from DJ, then a natural question is "why buy an F5?" when you can buy the improved F5 Version 2 (Teknetics Omega). Across all their brands which share internals there are so many detectors around a median price of $550USD that it's just silly. FT continues to eat it's young.:shrug: As Yogurt in Spaceballs sez "Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made.":lol:

OK who's gonna make an Omega review DVD?:poke: One without English subtitles that is.:rofl:

but that's just me and others might interpret it however they choose or find convenient. Even though the Omega isn't out yet, I've found enough factory based info on the net to get a grip on some of the differences between it and the F-5. I'd suspect it will shake out a lot like the T-2 and F-75. Each has some unique features to help a consumer pick their personal favorite of the two. There's a segment of buyers that can and therefore will buy both to experience the differences. And the marketing flaw is where in that? ;)

Rich FT collectors like yourself are few & far between. OK, now where'd I put those blueprints for the detector wing? :rofl:
 
Now that's funny, I don't care how wrong you are. (rofl) It's more more like detector-a-holic and detector poor. :lol:
 
why you are thinking for selling the sled. Old my Azz!!@ :rofl:
 
Sure many that buy from Radio Shack or Cabelas may never (feel the need to) advance beyond those detectors but, there also many that will step up to the Fisher/Tek line. Add those buyers to the people that have been in the hobby for years and you got some good numbers. Heck I'd "cover the bases" with a broad lineup as well if I had a stake in the MD biz.

Hi Terry,

Cal cobra's report is a good read, there is Mark's report which very glowing, and Bill's video is a big help. There are several posts that are helpful, just do a search for the F5. I personally love everything about the F5 performance just because it really fits my hunt style, sites and feature preferences. I've been meaning to write out a fairly comprehensive report but haven't had the time yet and will be delayed a bit more as I've agreed to do a comparison of the F5 and the new Tek Omega. That will contain a lot of information on both units.

The F5 is HOT on gold. I found a sweet 7.3g 14K gold pendant over the weekend with my F70, but I'm thinking about using the F5 to continue working that field on my next outing.
 
Now that sound's great ! Any idea when the report will be done and where it may be posted ? And could you tell me where I could find Bill's video ?

Hi BB,

I'm extremely biased toward the F5 as I find it's feature set and performance to be perfect for me. From what little I know about the Omega, improvement is mostly hardware and power supply. The rest is just feature switch ups. May be wrong :shrug: But I'll soon find out for sure.

I'm gonna guess that while they had the patient opened up they refined the software. No reason not too as they were going to have to map to the new display and membrane switches(de-bounce, repeat functions).

Three purported quotes of DJ drew my attention:

"The two machines are fairly similar in performance and in operating characteristics."

"Old-timers will like the predictable analog feel of the Omega"

"and the completeness and refinement of the overall machine."
