Is this a good deal for a Sea Hunter?

Someone I know is selling this Sea Hunter (not Mark I or II). I don't know much about Garrett underwater detectors. How long ago was this made? It looks to be in excellent shape. What do you think would be a fair price to pay?

Well, I'm looking at an old Garrett catalog from 1996 and that XL500 is listed at $1,199.95. So, if I wanted one I guess I'd probably pay a couple hundred bucks for it.

It's supposed to be a really good machine from what I've heard, but I've never used one. Heavy, though. It's the machine that Mel Fisher and crew used to find the Atocha(sunken Spanish ship). I think that Garrett started makin' those in '86 and made 'em for ten or a dozen years or so. If you call Garret's and tell them the serial number they might be able to tell you what year that particular machine was made.

Best of luck to ya'.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

I've got catalogs going back to 97 and $1199.95 was the retail price. Don' remember the discounted price through dealers. It's a proven goodie getter or it wouldn't have lasted this long.

Looks like someone beat you to the punch. Why not "ask" for a Garrett Sea Hunter on the classified forum, and perhaps someone has one sitting around they will also let go for a good price. It never hurts to ask.
