Seems my 705 once in a while when I try to ground balance goes into some sort of oscillation, the tones sound like a pinball machine. The only way to stop it is to turn it off ,and sometimes when I turn it back on it is still doing it. I have done several factory resets and has not helped. I wonder if it need a trip to Minelab? it is 6 months old.

Have you Noise Cancelled before Ground Balancing?
Could be EMI messing with you..

any problems with Tracking ?
i use tracking 95% of my hunting
the Xterra GB's as you move from ground condition to new ground...works brilliantly

If it were mine and 6 mths old I would email or ring Minelab and talk to tech
good luck :)

Had the same problem!
My 10.5 had loose wireing. Causing all that chatter.
Did the same as you, factory reset a couple of times.Did help the first time for some hours.

My brother got this sound also on his xt705 this summer when noice cancelling.
I was by accident hiting the side of the control box and it became silent ??!
Maybe some loose wiring in the box?

Send it in, is my advice.

Good luck
/Mike

UPDATE: Shipped Monday USPS arrived at Minelab on Wed, received a call from Minelab Wed afternoon stating that the detector was received and the tech would look at it and call me.

Service at it's best. So far.

keep use posted

UPDATE:

Well after 2 weeks Minelab finally called, the tech said he could not see anything wrong with it. After explaining the issued I had he said he was going to replace some components and ship it back. I should have it next week, hope is is as good as new because I am thinking of selling it and would not want to do that unless it is as new.

I think I know what your talking about. My 505 does this, but only when there is power lines above or below ground.

Yes the Xterra doesnt like some powerlines above or below ground.I have places I cant work the Xterra due to all the chattering...I now got the information that it is power lines below ground causing it.

UPDATE:

Almost 3 weeks to the date the 705 is back from Minelab. Service receipt says replaced PCB board for possible erratic operation. Took it out to the park for a few hours and seems to be better than new. At this time I am very satisfied with the service process.

I give Minelab a 10 out of 10.
