You say that you were getting a lot of weird vibrations? Do you suspect that the speaker was causing these vibrations?
Maybe, If vibrations are being caused by the speaker membrane touching the control box body because it's not mounted correctly so that it's isolated form the mounting area, then simply put it back in place and glue so that it doesn't make the contact to cause these vibrations.
or
are you saying that the sounds coming from the speaker sound distorted?
If the sounds coming out of the speaker sound distorted, then there may be a problem with the amplifier circuit of the Explorer XS. It can be repaired , but who can do so is another question. Hopefully Minelab can.

This speaker is from my original Explorer XS.
I have had the Explorer XS that this speaker belongs to, from new.
When I opened the control box to remove the speaker, I noticed that it had been partially hot glued in. This, I guess was to simply ensure that it remain in place. In my experiences with the dismantling of the Explorers and my Etrac, I noticed that dabs of hot glue are used throughout their assembly in the ones I have taken apart. The use of hot glue is not a problem to me. I removed the speaker, as I ended up making my Explorer XS into a chest mounted version that saw the speaker holes/vents being blocked with a filler and dedicated headphone/external speaker connector. So, the internal speaker was not needed any longer inside the control box and is now mounted into a small external speaker box. As an option, I also use other external single speakers, that are not the same looking as the original and that I obtained from old headphones and various other wrecked devices. I like recycling where I can and I sometimes just like using my detector without head or earphones. An external speaker still has its uses for me.
I hope the pictures help out in at least indicating what the value, size and looks of an original, hopefully assembled in Australia (maybe Ireland) Explorer XS speaker is.
It's a Keyrin 50-8B-04M and it's specs are located at this link:
