I've had the E-trac for a week and a half now. I was raised on the EX2 and feel like I learned it very well over the last three years. It was difficult for me to make the blind leap of faith to the trac but I did it anyway. Every day I hunt I have to force myself to use the e-trac exclusively so I can get used to the sounds it makes and the numbers it displays. every bone in my body wants me to get that Explorer back out and find some silver or injuns today but I resist...... I went to a place tonight that I call "Old Faithful" cause it was active in the 40's-60's and produces something virtually every time I pound it. I decided to "lay the 'trac" on it to see just what it would do. I got in an area that produced mems and clad from the late 60's at roughly 4-6 inches. That's fine, this is not a trashy site but there pieces of copper, alum, foil and pull tabs around so I had the gain jacked to max, Deep and Fast OFF, Variability 30, Low trash density, conductive multi sounds, Auto sens etc... I started in quick mask and bumped the masking level to 22 then added it to the smart screen, noise cancelled and off I went. I dug some strange sound with a 42 or 43 and got a cool toy ring from the 60's, Then I got THE signal.....not just any signal but the signal that runs down your spine and says DIG ME I'M SILVER!!!! It was sharp, it was clear, it was solid and it was repeating in all directions and it was a ##-46 (ferrous number jumped around) IT WAS SILVER! My first silver with the e-trac. A 1959 Rosie. I thanked god as I always do and a calm came over me and I knew that everything was going to be alright. This machine is INCREDIBLE, it "sounds" like my EX2 on steroids! One Happy Camper! I dug a couple of wheats that read 42, clad dimes that read 45 and mems that read 44 while clad quarters read 47.
Here's my curiosity - is it possible that two different people who have identical E-tracs, have identical settings on the machines, run the same coil over the same dime signal at exactly the same speed, come up with two different sets of sounds or numbers? Is it possible.....
Anyway, thank you all for being here and helping myself and others figure this "Geiger counter" out ( my gramps calls it that...lol)
