This was Lee's latest sculpture... 18" high, 13" wide. She had worked on it for over a week, just finished it last night. The type of clay she is using calls for the piece to be baked in an oven at 275* (depending on the clay thickness) for 15 - 20 minutes. This gets the clay hard. We had just bought a new stove, and it had a timing feature on it, so we set the timer for 15 minutes, and went to church. Unfortunately, the timer feature didn't work. When we got back, Lee's hard-worked on horse head had exploded in the oven. Ever seen a 13 year old girl cry over a piece of work she has put her heart and soul in?
She wanted to start a new head right away, so I salvaged the old framework and base, and she is in the kitchen now, slapping clay together. I told her the next one would be even better. I sure felt sorry for her.
