Took Wot out to old park, but don't think I needed it for depth. First target dug was 1891 seated liberty dime, then a 1989 quarter under leaves and then stink-en lincoln. Next was the 1887 Indian penny. Found an insulator tie wire...wish the insulator was still attached. They had insul. and wires in the trees to this park...I can still see the pins in some of the big pines. Niether old coin was deep, just under top 2-3inches of woodpine and bark.Found a peters H.V.12 Ga. a rem. nitro club12 ga. and a western superx 16Ga. shot gun shell. A 22 bullet(dropped) and etc...it was fun to get out in the woods again.

Those would have to be the 2 Coins I would want to find if I only found 2 Older Coins myself. The Seated looks to be in nice shape. The Indian is also in good condition. And what is so great about these finds is that they were Shallow Targets and NOT Deep Targets. Most Hunters think you have to get the Deep Signals to snag coins like these but not really. Just takes a little luck and patience digging the newer stuff. PROOF that if you dig the Shallow Targets that you CAN be REWARDED when you least expect it. Great Finds and hope there is more at that Park. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

In this park(woods now)just about all have been shallow.Only reason I dug was I knew they were coins. In certain areas they get a little deeper but most are shallow. This is the second seated liberty dime I have found here, both shallow. Its when I think it may be a ring or what ever is when I dig shotgun shells or bullet casings. At a old fair grounds which is still open every year I also find old coins shallow,Indians, barbers, etc.The ground is very stable and not much is sinking deep. When I try the pond around old park I will probably find em deeper.I have dug a 1746 silver 2 reale and a very deep small but wide silver ring, they were deep and both I found with 7.5 minelab coil. The seated I nicked, ground is still frozen a bit up to 6 " so I have to be careful. I had to use my Mattock to get thru the ice. This is how I got my name a friend I use to hunt bottles with. He bought one a long time ago and I asked him what is called and he said a mattock...so I wanted to buy one but could not find one anywhere in the stores.Next time we went out bottle digging at a cellar hole I found one there in the woods..how lucky is that.So he called me mattockman! Sorry for the rambling on....HH
