Hit a patch of woods yesterday that is pure woods trash from one end to the other. It is between two roads and every Tom, Dick, Harry, Suzy and Jane have traversed through there for decades. And a good number of others, no doubt, as well. Hadn't been hunting as much of late. Weather and three days over in Ak striper and white bass fishing curtailed dirt fishing some.
Anyway, got out early Sat. morning and dug a few good targets for a change. One of the first targets I dug was the "certified crazy person" tag. Hmmmmmm! A couple of zinc's and clad dimes later got a small sounding nickel range reading. For a change it wasn't a tab tail, but a small 10k G F ring. A few minutes later I got a lock on 81 and just barely in the dirt plucked the small sterling marked ring. The pewter charm was the next good target. Towards the end of the hunt I finally got a high 80's reading and from about 3" saved a 42 Washington quarter. Just as I was about to leave the woods I got a solid hit reading 84-85. My first thought was its another can. Kicked some leaves and didn't notice a can and the target seemed to have a bit smaller sound to it, so dug it. In the clod I spotted the stem of a pocket watch protruding out of the side. I can't find any markings at all on it, but the ornate rim that the face sat in tests 925. The case, however, is not silver. Got all the coins rinsed off and spotted 2 green wheat cents. 26 and 40 are their dates. All in all, a fun four hours, hunt. HH jim tn

Nice to see some silver, coming from someone who will probably not see any for several months.
