The F70 was put in the box and in storage for the winter. After 174 hunts, 8 sets of batteries, 26 rings, 4 watches, all kinds of jewelry pieces and 3877 coins the F70 is now resting until next spring. :nopity: It sure was sad to wipe it down and take it apart, slide it into its box. It is like saying good bye to a very close friend. I have no idea what I will do for the next few months?? What does an old guy do now?? I guess I will tumble thousands of coins?? I could go back to knitting?? :rofl: Thanks for reading and HH.. Happy Trails....Z

What you haven't tried detecting in the snow? for all them spilt goodies at slay ride hills ,snow banks etc.
 
Sorry to here that z one thing about the west coast here in tacoma winter isn't that bad , still plugging along . Things do slow down especially the parks but it gives me a chance to find that stuff I walked over half a dozen times Lol. Stay warm Stryker
 
That is a bummer, z. Fortunately, I don't have to many weather days here in West Tn to keep me from getting out. I hunted this morning and it was 21 when I started out, but was in the 30's when I quit. Even though you can't hunt, don't be a stranger here. HH jim tn

Zeek, been reading your posts...we swing the same machine..(since April) and from the sounds of it, the same amount of hours, in the same State (Wmichigan) with the same results!
I too love the F70 (quick broom) and run it in AT on the beach, totlots, and other programs in the dirt, mainly Delta Pitch with various degrees of Sens, Disc. Been out in the snow with it, not getting as much, and trying to stay on the S side of buildings (schools, outta the wind and where the ground stays a little thawed)
This is my first machine, and first summer at this addiction, (lost 15 lbs)
Regarding what you will do this winter, scope out new grounds for the Spring! Even get out and try to "mark" a few targets that you can come back for once the ground thaws!

Same prob here Zeek,southwest lower Mi. But just like jmaryt and mudpuppy suggest,research,I've already got a dozen 'waypoints' on my mapping program,old parks,drive in movies,schools,churches,etc.etc.I will be locked and loaded and ready for spring!!!.......hh rick in mi.
 
I think some of us Northern addicts may just have to jump on I-65, or I-75 and go sweep the South around Spring break time...Has anybody ever tried detecting at a rest stop?

Oh, Woodchuck I have tried detecting in the snow. Even the sand is like rock. It is not my cup of tea. I would rather spend my time in my recliner.:clsoedeyes:
Stryker after 174 hunts the old body kind of needs a little rest. Like the detector I kind of go into storage. But I see by your posts that you are doing great with your F70 keep it up and keep posting. :thumbup:
Jimtn the high yesterday was 21 and high today 20 only have 3" of snow but winter is just starting. It really is time to relax and spend more time with the wife. If she ever gets mad about my going out detecting so much it will just make it that much harder to get out. If you know what I mean? :argue:
El I put the F70 away in the hopes that when it wakes up in the spring it will know the difference between pull tab and a nickel? :pulltab: :rofl:
Jmaryt I took your advice and went to Barnes and Noble and saw some books on historic Milwaukee and the books were so heavy I had to go home and rest before trying to pick them up. :surrender:
Mudpuppy thanks and the F70 is a great machine for us older guys. It is light, small and easy to use. Because I do have those senior moments. I look down and find the F70 in my hand, I know that I am still on planet earth (I hope)... :shrug:
Rick in mi you guys get the lake effect snow from us and I do feel sorry for you guys about that. I am from the UP so I know about the snow fall of over 100" + winters. I actually got a new county map and started to look for little out of the way (neighborhood) parks. It took me 2 days to clean up this very little neighborhood park this summer. :detecting:
Mudpuppy my friend Dave has already suggested that we take a few days and go down south and detect the rest stops. :twodetecting:

Hmmm...Milwaukee eh? Well, if you are going to shoot that area, you may as well stop in Oshkosh and look for loot dropped by the massive EAA crowd every year...then, if you get a chance, go west of milwaukee to Lake Geneva..theres a little town on the west side of that RICH lake called Fontana...with a beach! Then, jump on the Cross Lake Ferry to muskegon, and I'll pick you up!
 
Move to Texas. Seriously, I feel for you. I had to miss over a week when my wife had her knee replaced. I'm now at the point that I can sneak out for a little while now. She could have had this done last summer when it was 100 degrees outside, but, noooooo, she has to do it in the Fall when God has the airconditioner on!
 
Haha,this beeing my first year detecting,I couldnt help but wonder what I was going to do this winter.Well I think I know now-GO SOUTH!!! heck in10 to12 hrs.I can be out of the snow belt,I may just try some of those rest stops.hh rick in mi
 
Now your talking Rick! 9 hours to Nashville, hunt for some confederate gold, back onto 65 to the Gulf, find some Spanish treasure, then, decide E or W...Hmmmm. East its a nice long swing through FL and the Carolinas, or W into Texas to ransack in Rolands back yard!
 
Thanks guys for the brilliant ideas, but I think I was a bear in my past lifetime because when winter comes around I have a strong urge to stay near my recliners .:goodnight:

Big bang Fireworks draws about 100,000 people, 4 blocks away
Summerfest: About1 million people, 4 blocks away
Ethnic Festivals: About 100,00 people, 4 blocks away
Bastille Days: Thousands of people, 1 block away
Jazz in the park: Thousands of people, every Thursday in summer, 1 block away
Volley ball tournaments at Bradford beach all summer, thousands of people, 8 blocks away
I live near a lot of action here and not much of a reason to travel to find where people hang out. Got enough hanging around my house!

Roland: I have been through Texas 2 times. Enough said. Roland seriously, I hope your wife is ok? Knee replacement very painful process to go through. Drove a van for the hospital picking up patients at home to the hospital and knee replacements where the most painful of all passengers I drove and the process went on for months. :stretcher:
Rick in mi: You can always take up knitting. With enough brandy it really becomes fun and boy does time fly? :beers:

Wow, Zeekeys! sounds like you are right in the middle of a constantly replenished honey hole! You probably dont even need a detector, just a modified set of reading glasses so you can see the ground! Ha! Anyway, thanks for the invite, you too Roland...I did get the chance this summer to drive out to SLC for work, and then made a run up to Idaho, where a friend of mine has a gold claim...this was in Aug, and the snow had just gotten out of the passes the previous week! Of course I took the coil, he has one too, he took a loader and backdragged some "paydirt" down a stretch of the road, and came outta there with 2k worth of nuggets in a couple of hours...we were so high up, I got a blinding altitude headache...anyway coming back down, we stopped for a break, there was a huge white pine growing by a creek, so I went over to that natural looking "picnic spot" and found a very old silver ring, and a wheatie...This certainly is a Great Country, every State has something unique, I think this sport is a great way to meet new folks, and see some things not normally seen by others...
 
Yea I am sure Roland may have missed a few coins!!, Then find Shooter he is always finding good stuff!! Seriously I should be out of work in about 6 weeks,so once I get bored with ice fishing I just might take a short road trip south,now if I could get jimtn to show me where to start..............haha hh rick in mi.
 
Yeah! I'm gonna jump on google earth and scope out some soccer fields, swimming holes, etc. down and around Nashville...Brentwood and west of there are some pretty high end neighborhoods...it would be cool to do a serious run-and-gun...I get down that way on business all the time, but have never put a coil to it...theres some swimming holes in Alabama on Guntersville Lake that are only accessable by boat that I've been pondering..plus, if you want to catch a world record Blue Cat, Jan/Feb is the time to do it...I use strips of belly meat from salmon, and brother, if theres a cat around, they are a coming!
