Hi all, I have been keeping up with reading the posts (lurking) but have not posted in quite a while. I have a problem and need some advice. Actually my 18 year old daughter has a problem and of course daddy needs to rescue her.

My daughter is a high school senior and applied at only two colleges. Her GPA is around 4.1 and a very high SAT. She wants to get into animal sciences and only two colleges offer that major. Both are in the Cal Poly system. The one that is 200 miles away put her on the wait list. (38,000 applicants and only 4800 openings) She is heart broken and wants to appeal. She has had her heart set on this school for a few years.

The other Cal Poly U is 15 miles away and has accepted her into the same program.

Does any one have any experience with college admissions or any stratigies to get bumped up on the wait list. Maybe an appeals letter to admissions?

If I were her I'd have some high ranking High School types like her principal and asst. Principal, head of the dept that she wants to major in etc, write some letters of recommendations for her. See if anyone in her school has any contacts at the school that she wants to attend or maybe someone might recommend a college contact that she can "interview" with. Usually there are College recruiters in your area but you may have to do a little research to find them. You might try the High School guidance counselor to find that person. Any kind of person to person contact is good and remember to dress appropriately just as if she was going out on a job interview.

Good luck,

therick

My best friend is a retired HS principal and he is also the president on the local school board. I will be seeing him this weekend. The college is 200 miles away so I am sure he has no pull there. I know he will write a good reccommendation. (but who knows he may know someone who knows someone)

You need to show her how much better the school who took her IN is than the other one---I dont see much good in appealing as with that many applicants they sure do get to pick who they wont---She should be happy that both schools did not put her on wait !

We are going to do that. In two weeks the local cal poly is having an open house. Heather is actually looking fwd to visiting. It will be tight though, her jazz band has a competition early that morning.

That wont work, they are all up in sacramento trying to figuer out how to raise out taxes so the welfare cases can get all the free food and college education.

I am in the process of changing my name to Jose Jimenez
