It's harvest season.....

And today I managed to harvest 81 cents in a field that just had the beans combined! Using my dynamic duo (ETRAC with the Joey and X-TERRA 705 with the 6-inch DD) I recovered an 1853 Seated Dime, 1889 Seated Dime, 1892 Barber Quarter, 1868 Shield Nickel, 18?? Shield Nickel, 1883 V Nickel (with cents), 1901 V Nickel, 1902 V Nickel, 1906 V Nickel, 1880 IH cent, 1887 IH cent, 1890 IH cent, 1893 IH cent, and two 1911 Wheat cents. As usual, the nickels are red and the pennies are corroded. The 1889 Seated Dime and the 1892 Barber quarter look like most of the silver does when it comes out of the ground around here. The 1853 Seated dime was tarnished when it came out of the ground. But a "quick fix" with the aluminum foil cleaned it right up. HH Randy

Congrats I hope I find a few keepers tomorrow :) So what's this aluminum foil trick? I know you would only do it to coins that really have no value but would like to here about it :)

I don't recommend to anyone that they attempt to clean their coins. That is entirely up to the individual. I chose to make an effort to remove the tarnish from this dime because it didn't appear to be corroded. Just tarnished. To do this, I put a cup of water in a cereal bowl and placed it in the micowave until it was just ready to boil. I took it out of the microwave and stirred in a spoonful of baking soda and a shake of salt. I put a couple drops of the solution on the dime, and wrapped a small piece of aluminum foil (with the shiny side facing the dime) around the coin. I dropped the dime into the water and let it set for a couple minutes. During that time I could see a few bubbles coming from the "coin packet". I removed the dime and it was obvious that it was losing the tarnish. I wrapped the dime in a clean piece of foil and repeated the dunking process a couple more times. When it got to the point I liked the looks, I rinsed it off and rubbed it a little bit with a soft rubber pencil eraser. There is still a little bit of tarnish around the details. But all in all, I think it came out pretty good. JMHO HH Randy

Thats better than plucking corn and potatoes any day in my book.

amazing old coin day Randy, I love the fields for hunting! I had a black silver the other day in the fields and I use electrolysis on it for 30 second intervals, gave it a 30 second hit, removed it and inspected and repeated till the black was gone, it took 4 sessions of 30 seconds to remove the black. And the coin does NOT look cleaned in anyway.

What a day that was! Sounds like you were digging one great coin after the other there. I would go back and pound that place some more.

WOW! What a great day! I had a day like that last night, but then I woke up :lmfao:
