It's pitiful what the ocean does to silver coins...Barber dime found today..here's what's left of it.

It was intact when I dug it up from the muddy flats...but in trying to clean it...I chipped a little off seems I 'll never learn.

This coin is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry thin...like printer paper.

Also here is a pic of a silver religious medallion that I found yesterday at the same beach...

I'm sure there is more old silver at this beach....the beach has been popular since the 1800's..... and maybe even before that.

Well, the majority of my silver coins are found in the muddy flats at low tide at very old beaches, deep, and drenched in salt water; the older- dated coins are always in very poor condition..pitted, heavily tarnished, dates illegible; the later -dated silver is pitted and tarnished, but in a better condition.

Silver that I find in the dry beach sand is in much better condition...less pitting, but even then, the coins are not as good in condition as those I see posted that have been found inland ( forests, fields, parks).
