I live on the left coast and was wanting to get into water detecting. I have no one else to ask as I don't know anyone that is doing it. I see people at the beach detecting in the sand, but not the surf. I have done this myself, but have always been fascinated by going into the water. Question: What detector does the job.? How is the learning curve?
Any help would be vastly appreciated. I have asked others, but just received the long stare.... Marv

Great videos Joe. :clapping: May I ask what kind of camera do you use? I see it is mounted perhaps to your hat. What is that scoop also. Seems to have smaller holes than the 2 I have. Thanks

Hi Marv...Thanks. Any waterproof detector will do...you can choose a VLF like Excalibur or a PI like White's DF or DetectorPro HH PI which I use. They all have their own learning curve....my PI doesn't Disc., But I learned how to by the sounds it makes....this will take many hrs to master. Lets not forget a good big scoop like a Sunspot or RTG. There are many books out there in waterhunting...check out the links...those guys are members here to! ;) The other links will give you an idea how PI's work. The next Question is depth. To me the excal is one of the deepest VLF water detector out there! The deepest waterhunting MD'ers in the world are the PI's! I hope I put you on the right track my friend. HH

I built my own Water proof detectors starting in 1976 as with this one, then a couple years I started using Iklite housings as you see in the second photo. It's easy to do, just take a detector that works well and modify it to fit a water tight case then you can use it in surf or underwater..
