IT'S RAINING!

It's raining in Seguin, Texas. Not just a shower, it's been raining long and slow all day. This is the first 'significant rainfall' we've had since September of '07. I've got too much old cowboy in me to say the drought's broken, but this isn't the kind of rain you get in a drought. I lived thru a 7-year drought in the '50s, so I know what it's like. Up to now, 2009 has been the driest year on record. This is too late to help the field crops, but it should bring up some good grass for the livestock. Spring-flow has been way down, with some going completely dry, but Comal Springs has held up--so far. It's the source of the Comal River, which is actually only 2

my wife and I dive the comal and Guadalupe where they come to gather. Hope next year to have a good water detector

I remember how the Guadalupe at Gonzales gets when those rains come.

From low and slow to flood in hours sometimes!!

Best to be on high ground!!

But if it helps the crops.... more power to it.

Cupa, as dry as this ground has been there's no real danger of flooding. I've got a low place in my driveway that holds about 8"-10" of water after a rain. Last night it was full of water. This morning there's mud in the bottom but no water. The land is mighty thirsty & it would take a torrent to cause a flood. It would have to be like 1998, when 13" of rain fell in less than 2 hours in the Guadalupe watershed below Canyon dam. Had it fallen above the dam we wouldn't have been flooded. When it fell below the dam there was nothing to stop it.

We are still getting showers down here on the coast, Had to send my Excalibur II in for repairs, Now maybe I can start hunting off the coast a little, with some softer soil. I hope this keeps up for a while and fills up some lakes and pond. I live here dead on the coast some really big stock tanks I have never seen dry or as dry as dry can get. Even water wells are sanding up real bad. Bring the rain on.
