It's strictly physical

Ok, so I'm a newbie and I'm an old codger but I have had a rude awakening and thought I would share it with anyone who cares to listen.
Did some practice swinging in my warm basement with my new MXT. Figured I would place a variety of coins and other metal objects to see how they sound. Very first time I have tried to use it. WOW!!
After just a couple of minutes it felt as though my arm was going to fall off.
I did not really think I was in such poor physical condition but seldom used muscles and a touch of arthritus can raise havoc with an old body.
For the past couple of weeks I have been practicing swinging my arm from full right to full left while driving my car. I have progressed to being able to do it for 30 minutes while holding a full coffee cup.
Actually, from full right side over the passenger seat I bring my hand over the steering wheel and up to my left shoulder. Watch out, don't hit the steering wheel or you'll end up with a wet lap.:grin Believe it or not, I have not done it for a couple of days and my shoulder still hurts. Figure I'll give it a rest and resume my practice when it quits being sore.
Any other old codgers may want to check this out before the TH season is upon us. I am glad I had this unpleasant warning in time to do something about it.
Maybe I'm just too old!

My first detector was a light Bounty Hunter. Maybe not made so well but it was light and found the goodies. I switched to the MXT and am much happier with its performance but the trade off is the extra weight. I am 42 years old and in fairly good shape: a window cleaner by trade. I use my hands all day long and never had a problem until I got the MXT. Now I can't make a fist when I first wake up without alot of pain in my pinkie and ring finger. If I force them to close into a fist and relax my hand they STAY closed until I peel them open. So I use the 4X6 frequently and it seems to help. And its good at depth: have found a silver ring at nine inches. There is also a sling type of thing that I've seen advertised somewhere that transfers the weight of the machine to your hip but I don't recall where. Maybe someone on this forum does.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem with their hand from detecting?

Never toooooo old!!!! Just stock up on Motrin and go get them. I am no fried chicken and I always have knee and leg soreness on the first trips out than it goes away. The thing to do is get in that repitition, thats what strenthens the right muscle gtoup.
"65 and going strong"

Keep practicing, and buy heavier cups of coffee. When spring is here you will have arms like Arnold Swartzenegger. I am also from MI Jackson area. Good luck to you.

Tell ya how to cure your aem, get an excelerator coil, you'll spend more time diggin than swingin ,hence your swingin arm gets a break more often.

Hi Jeff. I live in Midland.
You said, "arms like Arnold Swartzenegger!" Well, I don't think so. I see only one Swartzenegger arm. Then I'll get hip or back problems from walking lopsided. Probably keep all the hair off my knuckles from banging on the curb too.
Thanks guys! I have gotten lots of good ideas both in the forum and via email.

I saw some in the kellyco 2004 clearance cat. Page 20 ranging in price from 19.99 to 24.99. I think their are slings on another page that are more expensive. The web sight is kellycodetectors.com the cat. is free. Hope it is ok to give this info out.
