First of all, Darryl, please don't confuse this with a personal attack.........just an opposite view of what we are ALL going through.
I have 3 kids, one out of college and on his own with great paying job, the other 2 are at the University of Florida (go Gators) so you can probably assume the cost of that. All three of my kids were hard working students through high school, all 3 graduated in the top 10 in their class of approx. 500 students (one Salutatorian). The two that are still in college bought new cars (Mazda 3's) and put 1/2 down in cash and mom and dad took over the balances so that they would have dependable transportation throughout their college career without the worries of pmts. so that they could concentrate on classes. Pmts. on both are about 135.00 per month each. My truck and my wife's 5 year old car total about 600.00 per month. I have one mtg. pmt. which I'll keep to myself but it's a lot less than the house is worth because this is our 4th home and we have rolled the equity over each time. At the time we made these decisions I had a great steady job which has gone away due to "downsizing." I know throw stock at the local grocery store for 12.00 an hour and I usually have been at work for 4 or so hrs. before many of us have had our first cup of coffee in the morning. I do have another job, I umpire when the time permits and there are games in the area. I don't expect a hand out and this is the first time I've ever mentioned any of this on this forum because, quite frankly, it's personal and everyone has his/her own problems to deal with. Mine are no more important than any one else's My wife has a great job and is the principal bread-winner, obviously. I would classify ourselves as lower-middle to middle class depending on where you draw the line at "house hold income".
Now that you know the situation, I would contend that you probably have it far better than I do, after-all I'm still paying on my primary (only) home. It seems that you have one paid for and the 2nd one well on the way. I would bet that if we compared tax returns and assets, you would be well ahead of me. Which brings me back to my original question. Assuming my hunch is correct, and I may be totally wrong about you, why should you qualify for the "cash for clunkers" discount but my present family of 4 be denied? Isn't that the very definition of discrimination. Soon they will have 4 billion invested in this program, where is this money coming from? The Obama administration with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid at the helm have appropriated 787 billion dollars for an economic bailout that most economist say that only 80 to 90 billion MAY actually encourage some sort of economic stimuli. The other approx. 700 billion? Pure pork barrel spending. Actually, during the time that the bailout was being hammered out in congress, there was talk that an economic recovery MAY be already on it's way. Now I am hearing that this MAY be true and no one has seen any results or can pinpoint any direct, positive effect on the economy as a result of this massive money grab that your (and my) great grand-children will be saddled with.
Comparing Obama to McCain is insulting to McCain. With Obama's obvious connections with the racist Reverend Jeremiah Wright, That Obama listened to for 20 years but can't seem to remember anything the man ever said, Acorn, the back-alley deal with his house in Chicago, the fact that he won't release ANY of his personal documents such as College transcripts, birth cert., (I'm not a birther but you gotta admit that the way this has been handled smells like a can of rotten Sardines) and the fact that he had only spent 244 in congress before he was elected scares the hell out of me that he is our President. Oh ! I forget the international "apology" tour, bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia Etc. How embarrassing !! It is way beyond any reasonable rationality that ANYONE would vote for him other than race related issues or the voters thought this was their ticket to a free ride. If you voted for him, how could you switch idealogies from Ron Paul to this political imposter. They are polar opposites!
And let's not forget the taxes aren't over yet. You and I and every other American in the U.S. will be paying higher taxes across the board. They will probably be called "fees" or "user Fees" to hide the fact that there are actually taxes being paid straight to the govt. It will eventually get to a point that EVERY consumable purchased in the U.S. will have some sort of built in "fee" attached so that every man, woman, and child will be paying in to the govt. in some way or fashion.
I gotta stop as this is incredible long, I could go on for a while yet. But, I will not thank God for Obama. I really believe that he will be personally responsible for a very dark, dark era in our countries history.
