Jewelry pattern

I am just about to give up on hunting silver coins, until I find some new locations, I like to hunt but I also like to find stuff.

I was wanting to know any thoughts on using the on board Jewelry pattern? I know it has a lot of open area that will accept a lot of trash.

Also was wondering if hunting for jewelry, what tone selection would be best to set?

It would also seem being that jewelry ID numbers would be all over the place and that it would be best to not pay any attention to them and run like a beep and dig machine.

Thanks,

Ron in WV

Do you have a jewelry store nearby that would allow you to test various rings and see where they come in on your E-trac?
Maybe tape a piece of very thin clear plastic on the face of your screen and make a mark where they come in on the screen and not the FE/CO numbers as well?

if you want to run disc then its probably tabs you will want to knock out, so you don't really need gold to make the pattern just the local tabs each spot will have differing tabs, knock them out and dig everything else, but be aware knocking out tabs also knocks out gold.

zinc would probably be as high as 95% of gold rings come in, so you could just block out say 1,2,3 and zinc up and start diggin, pick the right spots where people could lose rings etc..

but just from my experience park hunting gold can be a challenge on the mind

good luck...

No jewelry store but I did get in to the wife's jewelry box and got a few samples out for testing. She had several size gold rings and pretty large chain. I was thinking all I would need is Auto sensitivity +3 and the detector hit well on the rings but nothing on chain. I switched to manual set at 30 and hit the chain but the coil would only go 3 or 4 inches above the chain.

I combined the factory jewelry pattern with my homemade coin pattern. So I should be able to pick up some clad while I wait for the coil to pass over some gold. I will keep and eye out for pull tab numbers and I will block them out if needed.

So I should be good to go.

Just to add quickly Ron...what you said about running it like a "beep and dig machine" is somewhat what you're after. The clue(it can be a clue on rings specifically) is that the signal itself will sound very stable...it can sound very "compact" or "stout". I've found silver and gold rings(not a ton) but what was common among them was the signal itself had a certain VERY SHORT AND TIGHT quality. This,and...the ID can be very stable,it'll read the same either way you sweep it. Of course it's not foolproof but I've found rings with my IDXPro,Explorer and CTX....they all displayed these qualities. Obviously with a bunch of junk around this will seldom be the case, though it could be. Get rid of the known pulltabs numbers via discrimination and see if you can can up with something good!
If you come up with a way to find rings and leave pulltabs and it's foolproof, please post back!!:)
