Jewelry readings on :minelab: Quattro

Was curious as to where most gold & silver jewelry fall on our Quattro ID so did some meter readings and hope this would be helpful to most jewelry hunters. BTW, these fine specimens were mostly borrowed and didn't come from the hole how I wish

#1 - strange that this gold ring & bracelet would read this low. Believe it is because they are not solid "rings" with both items having a part that is either not solidly connected or broken/cracked.

#7 - all those rings in one straight line! Here is where most of the small & thin gold rings/pendant/earrings including one large white gold sapphire ring.

#10-17 - most medium sized rings including several ladies rings with precious stones/gems.

#35-38 - thick heavy solid 24k gold pendants & bracelets

#36-38 - silver rings & lockets

This was all done indoors where electrical interference may also affect the accuracy of the numbers but its a good guide as to where most gold & silver jewelry reads on our machine.

I'll be gone for a week and will check back with you guys then...everyone have a good hunting week and go find some gold

This is great! thanks for posting this.
Sometimes people ask me to find a lost ring
or medallion in high trash areas. I have often wished
I could guess where different rings would ID on
my Quattro like thin or thick 10k, 14k, 18k, 24k, gold and
platinum. So I could disc out all but a few numbers to find
only that ring I just never had very many I could check.

I wonder about the Items in your picture do you know
what Karat gold most of them are? Like all the rings
that ID at number 7 are the the same Karat rating?

Hi Rick,
on the #7 I think most are between 10-14kt and of the rings i used definitely no 24kt gold fell there. Hope this helps.

Hi Doug

Yes I tested all rings coins and trash targets in my collection
on my digital guitar tuner but wish I had a freq counter instead.
because the tuner locks on to a key or note if the tone is close
like F6 A5 etc. so I don't see the exact freqs.

I think the sounds are the most accurate ID I just can't hear good
enough so I want to see the freq number then I can tell a zinc from a copper a tab from a nickel or ring etc.

I might bring my O'scope home from work but I really need something lite and portable for hunting with.

I have a large excel spreadsheet if you want it I can send as
an email attachment.

My wife has a fairly old ring that is not picked up by my quattro in air test. I can't seem to find any alloy used for rings that has a conductivity that low. Just curious what it could be made of.
