hi folks..got a question. i get out a couple of hours a week to various parks and a school. i have yet to find any rings just clad, pop tabs and usual junk. i am swinging in the auto notch mode, disc at 10 o'clock and my sensitivity and 3 o'clock. i dig probably 85 to 90 percent of all signals; all if they are very repeatable. my questions are 1. how long have you searched before finding your first ring and 2. are my adjustments off or maybe its my locations (i live in a fairly poor, sparsely populated county but still rich in history). any help would sure go a long way. you guys have been helpful in the past. thanks monster
 
Auto notch mode can notch out some gold,because some gold is found in the nail/pull tab range.
Also run sensitivity as high as you can without getting false or erratic tones.
Disc.should be counter clock wise or 0 so you will find all metals,sure you'll dig more junk,but you'll
open the door for gold.
 
Took over six months to find my first silver ring. Thought I would never find one. Took about the same time to find my first silver coin, a 1943 merc. Found it at an old high school. Hang in there and HH
 
there is a guy in town that has a place he goes to where i guess he finds tons of money,is there a certain time like after a festival that i should go?
 
Hi monster, Unfortunately you have to dig up all those pain in the @#& unwanted items. But when you do find that nice ring or piece of jewelry, It' all worth it. No Pain no Gain. I would of let alot of those nickles go if I did'nt dig up those low tones.Don't get discouraged and stay with it, Your turn is coming.

As stated above, DO NOT turn your DISC/NOTCH knob above 9 0'clock position, or your gonna not even see the smaller gold items...gold is probably the hardest thing to find with a machine that operates below 14kHz...Hunt in your DISC mode, keep the SENS at noon or 10 O'clock (2-3 O'clock if the unit remains stable), and keep your DISC/Notch know all the way CCW (counter-clockwise). Dig Everything that has a repeating signal, even the IRON/FOIL ones...Especially if your in an area you believe gold items could have been lost....If you find your digging a lot of nails and gum wrappers, then turn your DISC/Notch up to 9 O'clock (no more)....You have to dig it all to find the good stuff, but one gold ring with a nice rock on top will make it ALL worth while!!!

Agreed, I run in disc. mode but never take disc knob over 9:00. My soil lets me run wide open in sens. without hardly any falseing. Dig all repeatable signals and when in doubt, dig. Getting to know my detector's talking. Try to call it before I dig it. Canslaw can drive you knuts, pull tabs old or new are :ranting: Have dug 7 rings this year with only one being a very thin silver (bent up) the rest junk. Guys and gals we all know that digging is part of the game so keep the dirt flying. When you see the gold color through the dirt I beleave you'll forget about the tabs of the past.
