Joey or Excelerator?

New member
I was just wondering what is the difference between the 5" joey coil from coiltek and the 5" excelerator coil from minelab. I dont know if minelab makes the excelerator, I was just being told by a user he loves the excelerator. Now from everything I read about opinions, so far it looks to me like the joey has it the other one beat bad.
I am hoping to get out tomorrow for a while, Good Luck Hunting!!

Stick with the Joey Coil. I own one and it is the second coil I use in my arsenal. It will see thru the trash and get the keepers next to junk. Personally, I wouldn't use anything else unless the site is solid trash and then you might just need a 5" coil to sort all the different targets out. Hope you find some great stuff when you go out and hope to see you post some finds.

I see this joey is DD, but any DD's I seen have the strip in the middle, from the picture I looked at the joey does not so is this still a center of the coil type thing? How is the pinpointing? I really didnt have alot of problems with the pinpointing, I use to use the 10 X 14 DD for the 1500. What does this excelerator coil do exactly? Is this a concentric coil? Thanks for all your help and I hope I get out tomorrow and post some good stuff!! Good Luck!!

Pinpointing I find with the Joey Coil is pretty good. I find that when you put the detector in pinpoint and get over the top of the target, that usually the target will be about dead center of the sticker (sticker of the guy with detector and holding pick) on the top/front of the coil. The Joey Coil is a DD and has very good depth. This coil was made so you could get in between trash targets to locate the good targets. It does this very well. Also the Joey Coil is 5x10, so you can get between targets and still have the total sweep length of the stock coil and it is alot lighter to swing than the stock coil too. Hope this helps and Good Luck tommorrow if you are able to get out and do some detecting.

I hear that it isn't, but you might want to check with Coiltek to be sure. I have a Joey Coil that I use quite a bit and when I go out detecting in the mornings, I will get some falsing from the dew in the grass. But as soon as the grass starts to dry up the coil stops falsing and it works extremely well to get between junk to see what is hiding that others have missed. If you plan on using it in water, make sure you contact Coiltek to find out if it is waterproof and if there is a way of waterproofing the coil. I would hate to see you ruin your Joey Coil. Hope this helps you out and Good luck and HH.
