I broke down and ordered myself an XP Deus with WS4 Backphones and the 9" coil. It arrived today via UPS delivered to work. I brought it up to my office and charged the unit up and waited for quitting time to roll around...
Right from work, I drove to a park that I've been hunting regularly for a while with my old V3i, the Makro Racer and the E-Trac. Of the three, the E-Trac was most successful at pulling up the old coins. Lost of wheats, but no silver. Upon firing up the XP, I started in the basic program but set for full tones. I dug a few memorials, bottle caps, and oddly two nails. This shows I really need some more seat time with the machine.
There's an area in the park where they built a gazebo. The area around the gazebo is littered with nails - as if the workmen spilled some... The V3i was virtually silent in this area. The E-Trac was less silent but gave TIDs all over the map that I could make no sense of (when it wasn't nulling). The Racer pulled the targets apart, but odd audio tones and only three different tones made it really difficult to decide what to dig. I swung the same area using the basic program and had more or less the same problem. THEN, I switched to the Deus Fast program in full tone. I could really make out exactly what was in the ground and where! Finally I hit on a consistent high tone (can't remember the exact VDI but it was low 90's). Upon digging out popped a 1935 Silver Washington!
All this within 45 minutes of using the detector for the first time. A good omen I think!
Cheers!
