Joining the tesoro water detecting team

Well I checked my tracking number and my brand new Tesoro tiger shark is due to be delivered tomorrow. I am excited about getting it and doing some air testing and getting use to the controls. HH. all.

You picked a winner far as I'm concerned. Word of advice on that machine, don't put much stock in the air tests as in my experience it detects deeper than what you may find air testing. Mine seemed abysmal in the air but went about as deep as most of the uMax series detectors and that was just deep enough.
 
You will love the shark, Very good on small gold. I also love the sound. I call mine the duck. I have in the past owned some of the best you can buy. I hated them .. I love the shark... KEN

Well When I woke up this afternoon(I work evenings) my loving (an understanding:angel:) wife poured me a cup of coffee and told me the ups guy came and left a package in the kitchen for me:clapping: It will be a while before I can get out with it around here, They are predicting at least another 2.5 inches or more of rain over what we already got. Habanero, I agree about bench testing for depth. I do not think bench testing is accurate for any machine. What I meant is playing with it in the yard and getting use to the sound and controls over some targets. Thanks for the replys all and HH.
 
Way to go pointer. Spend some time to get to know it do'it run your dis. very high,(past about 2.5)when you set the sensitivity go out side away from any emi take your time ,set it just before it becomes unstable and leave it there you will not need to mess with it again.Good luck
 
Also do not touch the controls inside except for the volume. I took this advice from another long time user on another forum. I found that the volume was set perfect and did not even touch that. Don't worry about air test it is plenty deep in the water. I hunt in both all metal fast mode and disc mode. Keep the disc setting low in the 2-3 range. Listen for the quack and scoop/dig. Make sure you ground balance and go get the goodies. You just purchased on great machine!
 
Ok, I know this is probably a silly question but when hunting in the water (a lake,river etc.) do you ground balance in the actual water or on the bank?
 
I ground balanced on the bank first, then checked and ground balanced in the water. I found that my balancing on the bank was right on in the water. Not saying that is right, but I found so little to no difference.
 
Congrats, the Tiger is a super machine. Air tests with it give poor results but in the ground it matches most Tesoros for depth. Ground balance it in the water for best results.

Our lakes are still frozen enough to drive on so... You'll be in the water before I will LOL!
 
Thanks for the info guys. I took it out and ground balanced it in the yard today and played with some targets. So far I like the Tiger. HH.

Won't affect the Tiger Shark! Perfect tool for detecting in the rain (as long as it isn't throwing lightning bolts). Around here, the only one who had a problem with me putting the waders and rain coat on and going out detecting in the rain was our youngest daughter. She said more than once "He looks like a dork. I hope nobody sees where he lives; it's just too embarrassing". She has grown up a bit over the last year; has moved out; is getting married in August and has eased up a bit on things I do that do or do not embarrass her. :rofl:

I vote for getting that Shark wet! :poke:

Thanks tvr, The problem around here is everything is at flood level or above. I figure that should churn up some targets though.
 
I have the same problem as pointer80, the rivers are open but are at very high levels with extremely fast current. It is just too dam dangerous right now to even think about- but I do think about it. There are a few spots near a bay shore that are open but if the wind shifts there will be 20 foot ice shoves on them. I did find some unfrozen ground in a park that I might try the Silver uMax on tomorrow or later today if warms up some. Last night we were down to 18 degrees.
 
I hear ya! Wasn't suggesting going into flood waters and risk hidden logs and unusual currents and certainly not into ice floes. Was thinking more along the lines of a rainy day hunt at the park just to get used to the detector.

Hope you get some better detecting conditions sooner rather than later. And always be safe!

Thanks TVR I will definitely stay safe. If I get out tomorrow, it will be knee deep or less water on the beach shore of a large lake bay. I purchased a pair of Frog Togg lighweight waders and some fleece insulated wader pants. I always use a wader belt and wear my flotation vest just to stay safe. I will post any finds tomorrow. I think I am going to just take the Silver uMax out to a county park today and stay on land.
 
Great choice......I own both Sharks and love them. They really love to find gold no matter how hard it hides.
