Jumpy Ground Balance F5

Hello all
Used the F5 11 inch DD on easy ground today and noticed the GB number was bouncing about a massive amount
often going into the low numbers 5-20 and even going to zero
normally I would expect a smoothe and gental transition between numbers and that number to be around 75
detector was finding targets but I was only hunting shallow stuff so not sure if I was losing depth.

Anyhow, any ideas as to whats wrong

I have notice a crack in the "electronics" hump at the back of the coil where the glue is breaking, it's small and narrow but could that be the problem?

any advice very welcome

Thanks from Sunny Perth Australia

Hi Alimo,

The Phase number shifts all the time, every second as its just wandering around waiting to be useful. It only becomes a useful real number when you pump your coil over the ground. Then it should stabilize onto one or two numbers.

Are you saying that when you pump your coil over the ground it doesn't stabilize to one or two numbers?

Thanks Mike
yes GB number does float until needed, but in previous hunts it was always floating around the GB number I would expect.
i.e. about 75.
Now it's all over the place much lower, and often down around 15. That's just not normal
and the fe/ox bar graph sits low too, that used to be at 3 lit squares, now it's low and only 0 or one lit square.

also why is the GB tuning knob able to be pushed in?
I did push it in and also turn it while depressed a bit the other day

thanks all again

Alimo,

Don't pay any attention to the Phase number unless you are actually using it. It has no meaning unless it is being put to use over the ground. It doesn't matter what it displays. The only time it matters is when you are checking the ground phase or a target phase. The rest of the time is is just something to ignore.

Mine wanders all over the place from 0 to 99 and everything in between, unless I am actually using it. So yours sound normal to me.

The FE bars reflect the ground conditions. If your ground condition change you will see a change. The ground may dry out, may be more wet, may be more mineralized, may be less mineralized, may change based upon if you touch the ground, don't touch the ground, over metal, not over metal....... Your site conditions are not static. They are dynamic, always changing and the detector features let you know that.

I think based upon what you have said that you are ok.

Will keep an eye on it
I will do Gb periodically over the ground and hope the pumped number I get and set stays around 75
if pumped numbers are all over the place at that park I know I have trouble :stretcher:
funny aside Fishers market in Australia is low, They seem to go for the Garretts esp' the ace series and AT pro
