Just a question........................

Now that I have a little experience with my detector (1250), and have figured out some issues, I want to ask a question concerning the one that has puzzled me.
Sometimes I would get a beautiful belltone on each swing to eventually find nothing. It turn out to be, in many cases, that my coil was making contact with some kind of vegetation sticking out of the ground. I would pull out the twig or whatever and the belltone was gone. I would sometimes move some leaves out of the way and the belltone would stop. Yes, I would recheck the leaves that I moved. Nothing. Why this is, I have no idea.
Then there are times when the detector reads 3 - 5 inches and a solid coin belltone. I then look at my 12" diameter x 7 "deep hole and wonder. I have learned that a great majority of the time it is something, yet not a coin, but much deeper than indicated.
Now here's my question, which I'm sure you've heard before. Sometimes I'll get a tone every swing for five or six swings and then nothing. I'll change direction and get it in one direction every other swing. And if I pinpoint I'll get something, in like three different spots. Usually in this case the indicator is pretty inconsistent. A swing in one direction is a nickel, in the other a quarter, and then the next three swings nothing at all. I could be here all day writing every possible scenario. I usually pass these spots up because I don't know where to start. I do know that something is making the detector react like. I just hope I am not passing up on anything good......................hh thanks Rich

Drop it down to 6 or 6,5 and see what happens. The sensitivity control is not a "depth" control. When you make the coil more sensitive to whatever target you are seeking you also make it more sensitive to all the mineralization and junk in the ground.

I have had this same question with my 1250. I ultimately determined that the machine was fooled by (trying to read) a small piece of iron or similar trash often fairly deep. I quit digging these and just dig the solid tones. Also, Have had a bit better results with the belltone option turned off. Good luck, keep diggin,
