Yesterday was family day in Edmonton, which means most people get the day off, and most things are free such as the art gallery, museum, swimming pools etc. However, because I work for an essential service, I had to work. :( Now I new lots of people would be heading to those snow hills for all kinds fun, especially going down on garbage can lids, cardboard, garbage bags and toboggans. I got up early and spent 6 hours combing those hills for whatever surprise they might give up.

Well, after about an hour of hunting, I had to go and empty my bladder. Men's privileges allowed me to head of to a nice grove of trees and do my thing. Nobody around for miles. But go figure, I heard a telephone ring??? And when I headed to search for it it quit ringing. Am I losing my mind I thought?

No....about a half an hour I found a cell phone sitting in the grove of tree, where some person spear headed off the hill into the trees. It was just sitting there quietly, on top of the snow. :)

Now that was a great find! And the phone still worked after I warmed it up. And a couple hours later, I got a POLAROID Camera also just sitting on top of the snow. How lucky can a guy get! Well, I hit two more hills, the called it a day. I got just under 20 bucks in loot and some great exercise.

Not much to say about the bottle opener below, other then it was buried a couple of inches in the snow.......

I saw that you had warmer temps out your way which would have made it a good day for finding stuff.
Real great clad finds on those hills and also nice phone and camera ..:yikes:
Congrats on a very good day all around.

Speachless....

Your digs remind me of nice sandy white beaches, except that it melts in your hands! Instead of cabin fever you have the metal detecting flu! That's a good cure for me. A friend who was a ski instructor took me to Sunshine mountain in the spring eyeballing for wallets and stuff. We didn't find anything and the hills were a killer hike. There should be lots more goodies waiting for you in the spring. How deep is the snow now? I don't miss it a bit.

Nice hunt!:detecting:Congrats on the great finds!:cheers:Good clad haul!:clapping:WTG!:thumbup:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

I wish Americans used their dollar coin more so they (we) could lose more of them. You folks up in Canada get all the sweet one and two dollar junk. Guy can actually make some money that way. Very jealous at the moment.

wow nice finds....spring break getting ready to start down here in a few weeks so our beaches will start to flow again....:clapping:

That's a hell of a lot of clad John, and an extra free camera wouldn't upset me either. Good one. Ever time I go out (twice lately) to the one main tobbogan hill around here, it's packed. Maybe I can get there before the eyeball coin pickers, when it starts to melt.

There is an elevated boardwalk along the river where I live and there is the remnants of a dock along the way. There is this one piling that people use for a wishing well and toss coins and see if they can land them on top of the post. Most land in the water.
Well my son suggested we take a fishing pole and a magnet and see if we could "catch" some of the coins with the magnet for a lure, as all the new Canadian coins as of 2001 are made from steel with a nickle or copper plating on them.:canadaflag:
Well sure enough he latches on to a toonie right away...cool! Fishin's good!
The passers by ask what are we fishing for, and I answered back, "toonie fish"
Another one asked the same question and I answered "steelheads"...sometimes we get them by the tail.

We ended up with about $12 in change that day, better than some days metal detecting, so off we went to the A&W for their 2 for one burger deal, with our booty Most of all we had fun, spending quality time with the family.
