Well, it all started years ago, we had a toy metal detector from Radio Shack, and I found some coins, one an old 1921 dime, in the garden.
many years later, we went to Branson MO on vacation with friends, and they had a very old detector, I don't even think it worked much, it sounded
on rocks, about anything and everything...
but now, my wonderful cute Wife and I have a 28 acre farm, since a year ago. And, in the 14 acres of woods, (14 acres of farm land), there is an old ancient orchard, which,
the trees there still grow many very excellent apples. That's amazing, since the orchard is in the woods. There's an old bog in the woods,
complete with button brush, that has been there since forever.
The old farmer who we bought our acres from, says there was, when he was a kid, an old log cabin back there...
then, since I lost a 22 magnum shell unloading my rifle after a long night hike to find my glove I dropped into the snow in the woods (which I found), I decided
I need a real metal detector/treasure finder. I have wanted a real one for a long time anyways.
Well, I couldn't find that 22 shell for anything. So, that kinda ticked me off, so I sat down and researched metal detectors. I really liked the Minelab I picked out.
But, after buying a farm, having a big new barn built, and buying a tractor and haybaler and disc and grain drill and just bought a used haybine at an auction yesterday,,,
etc etc etc etc, .... didn't need to spend 1500-3000 bucks for a treasure finding metal detector.
But in my "studies", I decided that the Garrett Ace 250 was the perfect lower cost serious metal detector for me, and I bought the sports package.
The features of the 250 are excellent and easy to use, it seems. I can't imagine needing any more features. Compared to any other detectors
I saw years ago, the abilities of this one are amazing, well worth the cost for the great fun of owning it.
...just learning to use it now, there's 9 inches of snow and 32 degrees here in Ohio, so I'll wait a good while. I'll find out if it works in snow.
While I waited to get it (ordered it on a Monday afternoon, received on Thurs morning), my wonderful cute Wife found my 22 shell by logic and instinct.
I asked her if she'd use those skills for a few hours out in the woods, but she just grinned, hugged me and said the Ace 250 thing will have endless patience
with my silliness...
Like with most activities, like hiking/camping/fishing/hunting/atv-ing... there are responsibilities and ethics with treasure finding.
I hope to have the honor of returning some lost items that obviously have an identifiable ownership clue as part of it, to the owners, like the WW1 bracelet.
And maybe, some old farmer who lived in the log cabin hid a can of silver dollars out in the area near a rock near where his log cabin was, because he didn't trust
banks. GGG
Or, artifacts and other treasures at my Dad's home place in the mountains of WV...
It's going to be a LOT of FUN.
I'll visit from time to time to see what others have discovered, and later, to show what I may have found.
