Just Curious.....Do You Like To Hunt Alone Or With Other(s)?

I usually hunt alone due to days off at work, and don't mind hunting alone at all. However, I sometimes like to hunt with a buddy.

It depends.....on the person(s)....

I like to concentrate and if the other people do too....gooood....of course you can fall into some social stuff
where you're still swinging your coil....but your really holding a conversation....also good...
Naturally....if you find something good...you always scream/yell something ....
Plus where I go ....there is a safety in numbers element. (I generally carry as well)...

I guess generally I like going with 1 or 2 others.....but sometimes.... 'I want ....to be.....Alone'......:wiggle: it's a zen thing...:smoke:

Cheers,

Tye

I agree with Tye
I cover more ground alone but like to have someone with experience to chat to during the breaks.

I usually try to go with some one else. Especially if the drive is over my usual 5 miles to the beach. For years I always traveled with 2-3 others covering up to a 250 mile dive every weekend. Only once did we pack 5 into one vehicle. Now days I usually travel with one other detectorist unless my wife want to sit at the beach while I detect. When that happens I know I will usually have to stop for at least one restaurant meal. Many times I will meet another detectorist at the beach as our idea of how long to detect varies and one of us might want to leave before the other. It may also double the miles drive to pick another detectorist up than to just meet at the beach. Even a very bad day in the water is always rewarded by a cup of coffee / tea and perhaps an apple fritter or other pastry at the walk in the ocean.

With all that for reasons to go with someone I have to say that when detecting I very seldom will converse anyone else. I get very involved in trying to locate a good target. Everyone I do detect with will yelp and give a signal for any ring, or piece of precious metal found. I felt so bad for one long time detecting partner who had found a $5.00 GOLD coin and there was no one on the within ear shout to share his joy with. Another time I was detecting with the same partner who had been on a very dry spell of over 3 months without a gold ring. On that trip I held back on signaling that I had found gold. His wife was getting concerned about his lack of finds and we had talked about dragging a gold ring on a string in front of him...that never happened, but he was getting desperate. Boy when he came off the dry spell, there was no stopping his in finding the gold.

And lets face it when you are detecting and have Gray Ghost headphones on and the sound of the ocean all around you it is hard to hear anyone speak. It is a time to listen for the deep signals and concentrate on your hobby, which unless you travel with others is a loner hobby while you are searching.

Blizzard conditions here today...I will have to rely on the phone and e-mail to keep up with the thrills of Metal Detecting.

May the ring of gold be in you ears and the glitter in you scoop.

My 18 year old son died nearly 2 years ago (suicide) and since then I usually want to hunt alone. I am probably still grieving. Kind of weird, but the first year I actually used to talk to him while hunting. (another reason why I wanted to be alone) Now I just think about him often.

Metal detecting has always been a great stress re-leaser. I hear that same comment many times from others.

When i go on my own permissions i much prefer to detect by myself, even when i go on a weekend club dig i still prefer hunting on my own.

When it comes to the beach alone. But in the inter city parks with someone, Safety in numbers. Then when relic hunting in the woods with someone. There are too many things that can happen you could need help. Falling to snake bites.

I totally agree with Jim Robertson. Never know what could happen in the woods or City parks. A friend years ago broke an ankle in the woods hunting alone.

If I get permission to hunt from a property owner I normally won't take anyone with me.
I hate doing that to someone who was nice enough to let me hunt. If you show up with
multiple people you are responsible for ensuring every plug is filled properly. Some people
are not as thorough as I am when it comes to filling in holes.

With work it's tough getting together with friends, Enjoy both hunting with a friend or a day hunt by myself both are good.
