Just finished up my first set of Batts on the Safari

I just used up my first set of rechargeables on the Safari. My first impressions ..... I LIKE IT! The first few hours I used the 11" pro coil. Decent depth, excellent target seperation. Most of the time has been using the SEF 6 x 8 coil, in the trashy areas. That is an awesome coil. I have been detecting in a nearby small park that was around since the mid 1970's. I pulled over 1000 clad from this park using another brand, I was curious to see what I was leaving in the ground. This Safari has an excellent discrimination circuit. It seperates out foil, nickels and tabs very well. I have been finding more nickels , while leaving alot of foil and aluminum in the ground. I have dug some tabs, that were reading in the hi 20's, and I have dug a zinc that read 27. Most zincs read in the 33-34 range. I have also dug hardly any iron. While I have to swing the Safari a bit slower than my other machine, I spend less time digging crapola, so in the end I cover the same ground in the same amount of time.
I've been running the sensitivity in auto, and use the trash density setting in the low position most of the time. I went over one area, using the low density setting, then went back and hit it with the hi setting, and sniffed out 2 extra coins. Its a bit more erratic in that setting.
So far using the 6x8 coil, I hit my deepest copper cent at 6". It sounded good 2 ways, hit 36, and was lousy the other 2 directions. It turned out there was a rusty nail in the hole.
The last hour I switched into all metal, and listened to the tones above iron. The target ID still reads out the numbers the target is, and the audio also id's the targets with the different tones. That is really a nice feature. I liked the responsiveness of the detector in this mode.It sould be a killer beach machine! Though I think the noise could become fatiquing after a while. I hit a "no doubt about it 37" in this mode, and it was a clad quarter at 6"in the dirt, , plus 2" of thick grass. My finds so far are 8-25c, 17 dimes, 9 nickels, and 95 cents. It is a real pleasure to use. My only dislike so far, is if I extend the shaft out, it gets a bit tiring on my wrist.

Congratulations on your finds.
I have a new 3-week old Safari and have been finding
a lot of coins and some jewelry. I also really like this detector.
When my right arm gets tired, I switch over to my left arm for a few minutes.
I'm about 90% sure what the target is before I start digging.
I'm getting up to 20 hours on a new set of expensive rechargeable batteries.
It's worth the extra cost.
I'm waiting for my 4.5x7" DD coil to arrive tomorrow, so I can find the smaller
metal objects in trash areas.
The 11"DD coil is also great..
Happy hunting.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Safari, I have had mine for about 6 months. First machine so I don't have anything to compare it to. I keep my shaft short because I am out for long periods of time and it sure does make a difference. I have been using primarily C&J mode in full auto, high trash. I have been meaning to use ferrous mode more, occasionally I will cross reference the signal between the two, but time always seems to be an issue.
I have used only non-rechargeable batteries since I have gotten it. Sometimes copper tops and sometimes CVS brand. Seem to get the same amount of time out of each with no notable change in performance. (10-12 hours +/-) I can pick up 2 for 1 CVS batteries (20 count) so 40 for about $11. If I buy $25 dollars worth I use my $5 off coupon.
I really started doing my research and finding strong places to hunt and my silver count went up coin wise.
Lot of good safari users on here, hope to see more of your finds soon.

Safari is great park machine you are doing good with all that clad I love my 6X8 but the pro coil is very good also will find dimes to 8 inches I had 20 and below last weekend disc out except 13 and 14 left open for nickels kept finding metal jacks at full length of garret pin pointer found about 11 in 10 foot area make great sling shot ammo will stick in side of barn and whistle before they hit.I am getting about same amount of battery life you are. Some of the other safari owners say they are having trouble picking up .22 shells is this been a problem you have noticed?

Using the rechargeable 'AA' batteries called 'Powerex' 2700 Nimh 1.2v @ $4.00+ or - each from a store called
'Batteries Plus'. I'm getting up to 20 hours on these 8 AA batteries. These supposedly have extra energy
and it takes 5 hours to charge 4 batteries on a 1-hour charger. I would recommend a 15 minute charger
to bring down the charger time to about 1 hour on 4 batteries.
The 1-hour charger does charge regular NiMh AA batteries in 1 hour. As I said, these are not regular capacity batteries.

Swing Thing is your next purchase to releive that burden.....

and it balances fine. I usually like to stretch the shaft as far out as I can, to cover more ground in fewer steps, but i can live with a shorter swing.
