Got out for a couple of hours today with the 705 and Digger coil. I can't seem to separate these two.
Went back to the lot where I found the fish scale a couple weeks back.
I couldn't find a wheat or IH to save my life. Lots of newer coins though, which is pretty odd considering the age of this site.
Anyway about an hour in, out pops a Barber dime. Looks pretty toasted like its been in a fire. I can make an 8 as the last number in the date but nothing else to tell me the age. 20 minutes later I get a 1909 Canadian 10

 Way to go Bill!

Looking like that straight out of the ground, I'd bet your ring is real.
And since Barber's were only minted from 1892-1916, your dime is either an 1898 or a 1908. Either way it's still a great find!

It was hard to tell what it was. At first I thought I had found my first seated. Some of the backs on seated's are close to identical to a Barber. But you can just make out the top of Lady Liberty's head.
OLH, this lot has the remains of a rock foundation, flush with the ground but definitely there, so I suppose the ring could be old enough to not have markings. It sure was shiney in the bottom of the hole.
I'm kind of wondering about my depth. I used GB tracking and had sens at 20. Wasn't finding anything deeper than 2-3". I went back over the same areas with sens at 25 and started finding more stuff, deeper. I thought the 705 would go a lot deeper at 20.

It depends on how much interfering material there is in the ground. I've been to places where I swear they backfilled with foundry sand, and it was the worst for depth I've ever encountered. Yet other areas at the same site that didn't get the fill I found a bunch of old wheats pretty deep. I'm planning to go back again this summer just to hit it in Prospector mode. Maybe you could try that at your site?

My luck on the last few rings(gold)hasn't been very good. I don't hold out much hope. Silver rings have been good though.

My wife took the ring in to be checked. Its costume....oh,well.
Hey next time for sure Bill! I found a hick serpentine gold chain about 5" deep a couple weeks ago It weighed about 20 grams, too bad it was costume too!

Even the costume stuff gets the 'ol heart pumping for a bit.
Its been a few months but I'm still flabbergasted by the fake Black Hills ring I found, even the jeweler was fooled.
