just got back from doing a presention for my daughters class.

it was show and tell time for my daughter in her 3rd grade class. she had asked if i could show my metal detector with some of my finds. i thought it would be neat so i agreed to. well today was the presentation to her class. I have got to say it was one of the most fun times i have had. The kids were so full of questions and awe over the finds. even her teacher had questions of his own. I was even presented with a drawing one of kids had made of my metal detector. how cool is that? For those of you who have grade school aged kids, you should consider doing a presentation. it was pretty rewarding. i think i may have just started a new generation of detectorists. lol

A club member and I did that one time for the Junior High School where his son attended the 7th grade, I think, I can't remember for sure, as it has been a long time since we were there! He quit the club way before I did! It was a fun time and we even went outside, after he buried some coins, for some of the students to try using the detectors and find them, but we didn't get to for very long, as the bell ring for them to go back in and get ready to go home for the day! I had taken a wooden case with glass to show them some of my finds and he did also! They were really interested and asked a lot of questions, too! So, glad it turned out so much fun for you and the kids and maybe even the teacher will be getting himself a detector! Never know how many kids will go home and ask for one as a Christmas present! Maybe you will get a chance to do it again some time. I have been known to share finds, info, and stories with my students and they seem to always be interested. I've had some ask to go with me but I hesitate about that. There are way too many teachers getting into trouble, too many accusations, and too many problems arising over teacher/student socializing - inside and outside of the classroom. I figure it's best for me to not even open the door for trouble! I would never do anything inappropriate with ANY student, but it's probably best to not be in a position for rumours to get started. I will sometimes take a GROUP of them to look for wildflowers, plants, herbs, and leaves for science projects. They know that even though I'm not a science teacher, I know my stuff when it comes to the outdoors and so they come to their old history teacher for help... with their botany projects. I did take a cousin with me a few years ago while digging an outhouse and she went back to school bragging about it and there were a few who were upset with me because I didn't take them when they had asked. I had to explain that Ashley was my cousin... and that her mother was helping me dig. Let us know if you get to go back and share some more with the kids!
