Just got Land Star - Beach tom'w - need your help

Hi BHers: Yesterday I received an almost-new :bounty: Land Star. Tomorrow the temp. here in NYC is going to hit 79 :clapping: so the wife and I :detecting: are planning to go to Coney Island to test the machine. I will appreciate any help you can give me as far as the Ground Balance on the dry and wet sand, including possible black sand. I'll be up until 2am, EST, :throw: so I'm looking forward to your informative, helpful replies. As the Beatles sang: "Don't Let Me Down." :thumbup:
 
The Manual Ground Balance only works in the All Metal Mode...For all other modes, the ground balance is preset at the factory...Only turn the SENS up as far as you can without getting false signals on every swing...keep the DISC/Notch knob fully CCW in DISC mode...Stay off the wet sand...it is VERY hard to hunt on wet sand with any detector, save for the Pulse Induction type machines...I would hunt in the DISC mode to start, then use Auto-Notch if your finding a lot of trash items...

Hi: Thanks for your informative reply, I appreciate it. I went with my wife to Coney Island to test my "new" detector (it was sold as having been used for one hour only so it's still new) and spend only 1 hour since it was very cool by the shore and we were satisfied that the detector worked so we called it off, satisfied. The detector was accurate on the 3 corroded cents and the dime. I'm sure that I could have tuned it better using your instructions but it was okay and didn't cause any problems. I'll write down your instructions for future use.

I don't have any present plans to visit Syracuse although I would love to since New York is especially beautiful up there. I took basic training at Sampson Air Force Base by Lake Seneca and I loved the area. But if I should, I'll let you know and perhaps we can visit with each other. I'll visit your website in a little while. Happy hunting to you also.

Very Good Ed...Yes, the Finger Lakes Region is a very beautiful area.....I rented a camp on Otisco (The smallest finger lake) every year for a week for about 5 years...I also rented a cabin up on Long Lake in the Adirandacks (spelling)...
