Just got my LTD!

Aaron

Well-known member
Now all I have to do is learn to use it by next Saturday. We found a school built in the 50's thats loaded with coins. Im really impressed with the build of this machine and cant wait to get comfortable with it. Any advice would be appreciated. In the meantime I will keep reading the manual.
Thank you!
Aaron

Hey Aaron,
Congrats, I think you got yourself a good machine. It is going to take some time and some experimentation to get really comfortable with it. There is a whole thread right above about being new and some of the settings. I will tell you that in the early days with mine I suffered from sensory overload. It beeped, squawked, and raised all kind of chatter till I think I sorta quit paying attention. Remember it is very powerful and don't be afraid to turn it down some and hunt coins. If you have friends along who are comfortable with their machines make a deal with them to let you test over their deep signals to make sure you are hearing them and maybe take time to try a few different things before they dig them up. I started a cheat list of the settings I read about for different conditions. I pull them out and reread them when I encounter something that puzzles me. Good luck, and keep us posted. We are all learning from each other.

When the all the noise starts getting to you just remove your headphones and unplug then the noise is not going straight into your ears, keep detecting and when you think you can handle the noise again plug head phones back in and keep hunting it worked for me in the beginning. if you use 3h-4h with no disc it will be less noisy.HH :detecting:

Hey Aaron ... Congrats on the LTD!! Fasten your seat belt and hold on tight......I sure am enjoying the ride learning mine!! Like Don said don't be afraid to turn it down. So far (in 36 hours of use) I have learned to set the disc as low as my brain can stand on that particular day and only go high enough on the sensitivity to pick up an occasional "squeak" here and there and I can tell you I have not felt like I am ever running handicapped with this machine.
I have settled on 4 tones as my "standard" right now because I like where it throws the mid to high 50's VDI but spend some time and play with all the options to find what works for you at your location.

Good luck and HH

above on being new and settings, where do you mean? I know it's probably a dumb question, but please steer me in the right direction. Where do I find that thread?

Thanks,
Dom in Jersey

Hi Dom,
Hey, I am sorry for that silly observation. The topics on here move up and down as soon as one gets commented or responded to it goes up. I guess just look for headings on the first one or two pages. When I talk about a thread, I just mean that somebody has asked some of your questions recently and a lot of people have commented.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I'm really liking this machine. I cant believe how fast this thing processes each individual target. Im only having one problem, I cant seem to get it to ground balance. I have tried Fast Grab and Manuel and it justs keeps saying Cant GB. I have tried it over and over again in metal free ground and still no go. Ive been running in DF, 4 Tones, Sens 85
Thanks, Aaron

Aaron, sounds like you'll have to manual ground balance. As it says in the manual bad ground that that can't be Fast Grabbed , has to be manual ground balanced.
What are your ground readings where you are, and where are you?

GB numbers index up and down as you roll the knob when in the manual GB mode? If so, you can try manually GB'ing in AM mode so as to audibly verify you are "controlling" the setting and that it is in fact balanced to the ground. That will at least let you know you are spot on instead of having to hunt in the preset or previous setting when you try to ground grab and of course a manually dialed in GB setting carries over to the disc mode also. That's the good news....now the possible bad news is if I remember correctly, there have been a few instances where a unit would manually adjust for GB but the ground grab wouldn't auto adjust no matter what and the detector needed to be sent back to the factory to correct this issue. You might want to call Fisher service dept and explain what you're experiencing and I'm sure they'll make sure all is well one way or the other.

Good advice Brad:clapping:

I have already tried to manuel ground balance an that won't work either and that's in clean ground.I don't know the exact ground min readinghs but they are real low.
Thanks

Hey Aaron.......might sound dumb but you never .know.....you don't have any big metal hanging on your belt do you? (i.e. shovel, camera, lesche...etc) AND at the risk of sounding even dumber.....steel toe boots!! Actually ran into a guy one day who said he had a White's metal detector that beeped all the time and there was never anything in the ground so he stuck it in a closet and gave up, I looked down and asked if he was wearing those boots and he said "yeah, always do", when I asked if they were steel toed he sheepishly looked down and admitted they were. So I like I said at the risk of sounding dumb, just wanted to clear those two possibilities.

Good Luck!!

Dave
