JUST JOINED WITH MY ACE 250

I have just started detecting and was recommended to get a 250 ACE which I have and looking for any help I can get to use this machine to start my hobby.
Am going on Caravan Tour shortly and will be detecting beaches and parks etc:

Welcome to the forum. Just turn it on, set the sensitivity to 4 bars, put it in coin mode and start swinging. Dig all signals and report back on Monday.

Hi, Will take your advice and start swinging and dig for everything, so far have only found coins about 15 ring tabs bottle tops sinkers and one earing.
Can only get better and a lot of fun.
Will report Monday with more treasures.

Welcome to the board. I've had the ACE 250 since Feb08. Love it! Great machine! :clapping: Like Awhitster said, just turn it on and go ... the more you use it the more you will get used to the signals. To the point where you will guess 80% or more what you are digging before you dig.

1 trick, if you get a signal, pin point it, if it is large, then raise your coil up about a foot and sweep again. If you get a signal then its prolly an old can (but you should dig it anyways to cleanup the area). If you raise the coil up and dont get a signal then its prolly a coin super close to the surface.
Another trick, if you swing your coil and get a signal 1 way but not the other, stomp your foot on the target, that sometimes help.
I have been using my Ace 250 since March 8th & I have found all kinds of goodies... But dig everything, sometimes a coin spill can be just under that old can.
Oh yea... The Ace is spot on when it says quarter. All but 1 time my Ace was correct, the 1 time it wasn't it was a copper ring!!!!
You might not want to dig pennies, but I found my 18k ring while digging for what I thought was going to be a penny.
Again dig all targets...
 
great machine , had it since may , and KIcKEN ass with it, Like they all say , start using it right away and become one
with the machine . there is videos on you-tube to help u with pinpointing , and to get familiar with your machine . but soon
as you become understood with it , u don't even have to look at the screen u just trust the tones . NOW GO OUT THERE and start using
right away . REPORT BACK MONDAY with your finds

Great. Make sure you take it out before you go and get your pinpointing down really good.
Many people don't do well with elipitcal coils. It takes some getting used to.
SOmeone posted a little tutorial awhile back on how to pinpoint with the Ace diagrams and all.
There is a "sweet spot" as it is called and when you know where that is you'll have no problem finding your target when you dig.

My favorite ways of using it are: (1) low trash areas in the relic mode, (2) jewelry mode in medium trash areas,(3)with cursors missing to just before the nickel,or just below nickel in areas with much foil, and coins mode in high trash areas. In tot lots where all you have to do is kick back the wood chips,stones,or whatever I'll try it in the all metal mode.One of the secrets of using the pinpoint mode is raising the coil high enough to just get a faint signal and pinpoint there. Of course, the overiding theme: every valuable object falls in the same areas as trash.
 
I see that you'll be hitting beaches..That is a good place to hunt and sharpen your pinpointing skills.Use a scoop and sift the sand. If you cant find the object it may have slipped trought the mesh . I've had this problem a few times.I went back and checked the sifted sand with the detector and found tiny
objects as earing's,22 cal. bullets BB pellets bobby pins staples all kinds off small objects. You may want to invest in a pin pointer as this will speed up your finds to check the (small) plugs you'll be digging. Welcome to the forum.:happy:

Just a couple of tips to get you started. Junk items will usually give themselves away by jumping all around the place on the meter, so only recover targets that give you a solid lock on one notch, or bounce only to a notch either side (you'll figure out the better possible targets fairly quickly). Pinpoint off the 12 o'clock position of the inner coil. Practice on coins that you throw down on the ground and can see at first, as this will make it easy to learn how to pinpoint. Go out and have lot's of fun and don't be concerned if you are only pulling up junk at first. We all dig our share, we just don't normally show pictures of them in our posts.
