Just ordered a safari

After many months a debating, the safari is the machine I want. I should have it this Friday and I can't wait. For deeper coins in trashy areas what are your suggestions for coils?

Congratulations on your purchase, you will enjoy that safari more and more each time you use it. My suggestion is to spend some time getting familiar with your new detector before you take it to those real trashy areas. Read the owners manual and then go out and use it and after awhile reread the manual there is always something more to get out out of it and it becomes easier to understand. The sounds are the key to its magic. There is a symphony of sounds that you will have to get to know for the different targets you will encounter. Lifting the coil will help sort some of the sounds when you are in a trashy area. Remember that the Safari can see good targets in among junk targets, so again the key is to listen to the sounds. For example; a bottle cap and say a silver or copper coin in the same hole. I would start out using the factory mode settings. You might want to turn down the threshold level to your comfort level, a low audible tone is the best when using headphones. When you feel comfortable with your new machine a 8" FBS coil will work in those trashy areas you want to hunt. the stock coil works great but a smaller coil would be advantageous in those tough areas.

Happy Hunting

Hardtack gives some good advice. It's been a couple months since I bought the Safari and I am just now really getting to know its language, particularly for silver coins in ferrous mode. Learn the machine first, get a few finds under your belt, and then try out different coils.

Oh, and congrats on your Safari purchase! You're gonna like it.

Its true what been written, can't stress it enough, get to know your machine, and it will treat you right. Be patient, try not to get frustrated, and DON'T GIVE UP !!! We usually tend to quit just before we have a breakthrough !!! Keep us posted on your progress. Ron :minelab: :detecting:

I've only had mine for a week, but I can tell you that you are going to like it...a lot. I agree with the other posts that starting in a cleaner area will help you get a feel for the machine. I know I have more to learn, but I felt pretty good about how to use the machine after about 90 minutes of operation. Enjoy!

Lots of good stuff from the members here. Just don't expect anything from the Safari. Let it show you what it can do. As you grow it will show you more.....Z
