This detector has caught my eye and I have never spent this much on a detector. I do hunt all old iron infested spots and have been using a tesoro outlaw. No Vid for some time. I needed a second detector to use while I send the outlaw in for some repairs and have one to possibly make the tesoro have the back seat soon. I am nervous about this detector as it seems to be still getting updated and boy is there ever discussions about depth and seperation and who does what better. I am not brand loyal and use alot of different detectors. The ones I seem to own the longest and have best luck with are tone machines and that has been tesoro.

So here goes my time with the Deus.
 
you won't be dissapointed, but all in all, just having a meter is better than the Tesoro in my opinion. Take better performance, plus a meter, and you've got a new monster.
 
I have been reading up more and more and not so nervous anymore. Looks like a great machine. Though I did find that my tesoro is not broke. Minor problem causing me a headache. Oh well I guess I just needed an excuse to buy another machine :). Should have it Friday and then its off to the stomping grounds.
 
really easy to understand and program just tweek a program and see with each tweek if it works better for you then save it
 
Do not let all of the chatter the machine makes discourage you. There are adjustment to get it under control.

Don't try to swallow too much at once. Use a stock program to start with and adjust the tones and tone ranges to suit your liking. Using program setting from a user who lives in a different part of the country can really mess a person up. Your soil is probably not the same as the soils they are dig 40 silver coins from in one single hunt (Well, a little exaggeration there).

Bury a small, good target deep (8 or 9 inches) and mess around with the program settings until you can hear it very clearly. Remember, you can always turn the machine off and back on to restore the factory program to it's original settings so don't worry.
 
A Magic detector and Andy`s excellent book will take longer than a night to read and absorb.:thumbup:

I have been using the Deus for nearly 5 years now having once been a Minelab nut for donkey`s years.

May I suggest that you walk before running by using the factory settings for a while.

They will miss very little for you.

Most often its not what you walk over but the little whisper on the outside of the swing.

The number of times I have thought whats that ? and had a closer look and obtained a crystal clear "dig me" signal.

Here is a example of a very tiny coin thats was hiding away for hundreds of years, but the deus sniffed it out for me.

Exactly! I am finding great targets that have faint but repeatable signals in both directions. It's usually not the screamers that are the best stuff.
 
I understand and I will definitly use the default programs first to get used to the detector. The area I have is new to me within the last 2 weeks and are very old about 1820's and has been off limits to detecting. Luckily this year I finally got up the courage to ask since I have gotten to know them as I and my other co worker do all the HVAC and plumbing for all the buildings for the last 20 years me 10 him 20+. These were an old mansion and barns with there own built in blacksmith forge. They turned them into retreat houses in the 1930's and built a motherhouse in the back. Lo and behold they said yes but..... I can only be out there nobody else (hoping if I show I am clean they will let me have another as the area is huge 40+ acres 2 areas) and DO NOT MESS UP THE LAWN!! Very trashy around the barns and mansion but have only been out there for about maybe 2 hours with the outlaw. But it was not acting right. So This will be the spot I will be going to with the deus.


I will read the book and still start out with the default programs and also give it a test in a test bed. I got the book because I like to know what all the detector settings do and not guess. Also to learn any tips and tricks. Very excited to try this out and really excited to get out to this new stomping ground and see whats out there.
