Hey Guys. The picture below will shake you guys up as much as it did me. I had the quattro and never rated it one bit against the Explorers and quickly sold it.
The picture below of the cover of this Februarys British Treasure Hunting Magazine shows a Gold stater Hoard found with a Quattro on Easter weekend 2008.
There were 825 GOLD CELTIC STATERS of the ICENI ( BOADICEAS) Tribe dating back to the first century AD (2000 years ago)

That is what dreams are made of. That guy who I think is 60 will never probably have to work again. The hoard will be declared Treasure and as such owned by the Crown. He will be given a reward eventually to its market value decided by a valuation commitee of experts which he will share 50/50 with the landowner where he found it.
That Reward, if they are fair to him could be half a million English pounds or $700,000. Those coins individually at the moment are worth somewhere between $800 - $1000 each.

Just for the record they were buried all those years ago as possibly a gift to the gods, who knows. They were only 8" deep, still
mostly in the earthenware pot show in the picture.

Enjoy the pic and do us a favour. Dont all come rushing at once to the UK when its vacation time.

There are 5 Videos currently posted on MLOTV.com telling all the history and explaining Boadiceas rise and fall against the mighty roman legions.

Dont see why you couldnt go online and get a copy sent to you. They post them round Europe so for a bit of extra postage theyd send to the states Im sure. Just Google Treasure Hunting Magazine UK.

Super find, who hasnt dreamed of something like that.

Here archaelogists dont want us digging up stuff and there it looks like they actually encourage it. doest the govt value up your finds and then pay you for them? Sure seems like a better way to do it, gets the stuff out of the ground and into museums for all to see.

Thanks for sharing Tony,
Neil

Thats more or less it Neil. We have to hand valuable finds in by so many days to a coroners office.. It then goes to a Coroners hearing. Hes the guy who decides if its treasure or not. If not you are allowed to keep it.
Once the coroner has declared it treasure it then moves on to the next process which is the valuation committee made up of various experts. They decide its worth. They then invite offers for it usually from the local museum where it is found. Because of the huge value of this hoard it will probably end up in the British museum for the nation to own and see.
If its the local museum buying it they then have to raise the money for the item, usually by grants and donations and then that money is handed over to the farmer who owned the land its found on and the finder 50 / 50. One of those parties could buy the other one out if they so wished. This is a very fair system that only operates in the UK I think. It works and it encourages people to hand their finds in for prosperity. The whole process is very slow and can take two years but at least all our history doesnt disappear for ever more into private collections.

Hey Tony you've come to join us in here also? :detecting:
That seems like a fair hoard to me.

Ive visited the findmall forums for some time mate on and off. A lot of the guys in the states are now visiting our forum to watch the MLOTV videos so its nice if we return the call so to speak.
I posted the picture of the Gold stater hoard because I thought some of the guys in the states would be interested to see what is still possible here in Europe, not often I hasten to add, but it does happen occasionally.

I realise that there isn't the history there in the states that we have in Europe regarding coin hunting & relics but they have something we dont have in Nugget hunting. I'd love to have a go at that some day, read a lot about it both in the states and Australia.

Hey Tony, I see. Yes returning the call is probably appreciated mate.:detecting:
There is indeed still quite some stuff left all over the place.:bouncy:

Have a good day mate,
Eu

Tony thanks for sharing!
Question:many of the coins appear to have a small pie slice out of the edge--what gives?
