a detecting school? I was setting here at my desk today an got to thinking about all the different detectors that seem to work a little better for different detecting sites. And thought if I had a Whites, Fisher, Garrett, Shadow, Minelab, etc. That it would be nice to have a place you could go and get training on each. Say one week and each day a different detector, Class work, notes, and of course field work. Have factory reps do the training. What are your thoughts?? Just kicking around an idea.

you would also have to get instructors that could answer almost any question about a certain detector. You would have to pay them year round. Most experienced detectorists wouldn't bother going to a school. That being said, a series of DVD's would probably sell. Go for it.

Haw!!!! That's weird. I just finished posting a reply to Mike from MI about the two neat coins he found and said in the last line how I wish they had a class on metal detecting at the college (or anywhere would be good). I now have 4 detectors - too many and have not found the "perfect" one yet. Spending way too much money on detecting for someone on a limited income. I gave one to my father and one to my older brother. I also just got one for my 12 year old daughter. They are all set. I am still looking for one that works the way "I thought" they were supposed to. The thing that drives me nuts is the magical "disappearing" target. Or - the "ping" that only goes off when going in one direction at a specific angle and no others. I can wear out a set of batteries trying to figure out what is going on before I finally break down and try to dig whatever it is up.....only to find nothing in the hole. I definitely need some schooling.

BTW - have you ever heard of anything that can be put over the top of a detector coil to concentrate or redirect the magnetic field to the bottom side of the coil (to make it go deeper or something like that)? Just wandering if that might be possible or not. I don't know if there is anything that will block a magnetic field but it might be worth some thought. Afterall - they make antenna boosters for cell phones............why not a detector coil?

There are different times when reps go to big events and give seminars and answer questions. One big problem is it is getting harder to travel to these events with the high cost of fuel!
