KCK...UROK......Memories

Hi there KcK !

Too true good friend...without a sense of humour, you may as well be under the soil with the worms.

Actually, that traction engine scene is one taken early in the 1900's locally. Those gentlemen were rolling the 'tar and chippings' on the promenade in West Kirby. I found the photo when I went to the local refuse tip with some garden waste. It was folded and dumped on the top of other rubbish. I have a weakness and a passion for collecting old photos from the past century....just an old romantic really.

Before anyone starts complaining about this being a metal detecting forum and not a picture gallery....Pictures too are a significant part of our history.....remember that.
When the frost comes and the snows are deep, cabin fever should make you get out those photos, and revive memories of yesterday.

When I find something with my metal detector, my thoughts are of those who lost it...

What did they look like?...Did its loss cause them sadness?

If you're a metal detectorist, and lack a sense of empathy for the original owner and the circumstances or consequences of their loss, well you're not my kind of person.

And if you don't have a sense of humour, well you missing out on the elixir of life.....a good laugh.....

Here in the UK we often encounter the problem targets we call 'coke'.

That is either the cinder or the original coke material used to fire the boiler of the above type of steam engine. It provided the motive power to ancillary farming equipment as well as a towing vehicle.

When 'coke' is wet it becomes a nuisance target who's VDI can vary around +2 to +10 depending a size. To reject that can compromise the detector's response to small-low conductive targets.

This coke probably was dropped from the agricultural traction engines as shown in the photo. They were a familiar sight in my boyhood days.
It was an exiting occasion when one of these huge beasts rumbled down you street. Hissing, puffing, shaking, massively dominating.

I remember to, the gas lit street lamp outside our house.
1864 was the date moulded into its tall cast iron pillar.
On a typically English foggy winter's night, we would play "Alley-oh" around the base of that early Victorian lamp-post. Our gang would hide in gardens and back-entries, whilst the den keeper would have to find us, then race back to the lamp and 'tick the den'.
You would then have to join him to hunt for the rest of the gang........Memories, from the corner of my mind.

So it should be with the targets we find. Use your imagination to breath life into their significance.
Make yourself acquainted with what it was like locally, in the past.

In my lifetime, I have seen the evidence of hundreds of years of local historic buildings and venues, destroyed by the social vandalism of speculators and big businesses.

Now my children are more restricted by society than ever I was.

DON'T WALK ON THE GRASS.....BIRD SANCTUARY....
NO KICKING THE BALL AGAINST THIS WALL...
KEEP TO THE PATHWAY. FROGS BREEDING...........

That's progress?????

When a society destroys in a careless manner, its evolutionary identities, then newer generations have nothing to relate to.

When the dark times of modern life sometimes descend upon us, we need to find and touch that "Old lamp-light" that lit the daily life of our youth.

Well, if I can't have my old lamp-post back...a picture will do.

When I started up this T-2 forum, it was to talk about the function of the then introduced, T-2 detector. For the most part the main subject has been along those lines. I can

sooner or later good neighbor it all comes down to our memories. We're just blessed that we can appreciate it right?

Thanks for sharing....excellant!
:beers:

I agree with you MattR and enjoy KCK's sense of humor. I did not pay any attention to what was posted by anyone in particular on other forums as I see familiar names all over Internet on metal detecting forums. It seems like we all kind of draw up tight without our detecting fix when cold weather shuts so many of us down.

As soon as the F75 hits the streets I believe I will be swinging one unless something else beats it out for Christmas or the New Year. I also would like to see at least two frequencies is why I say unless something else beats it out. However, I most likely will swing one and also what hits the streets that is multiple frequency and because I have the SE I can only think of one other right now that would interest me and you know what that is.

Have a good one MattR, KCK, and all of you.

Hello Bill. Thanks for your comments, and I appreciate your message.

But it provokes me to respond to you specifically, in a manner that I would not normally be drawn to do so.

If this brief deviation of mine from the 'straight and narrow path' of 'T2 only related matters' calls for a 'polite warning', have you considered why this Techi. (and maybe others) have strayed?

I leave you to ponder the possibilities.

Firstly:- I am the most passionate UK supporter of the T2.

It was I, through Stu, who 'introduced' it to the UK's attention.
Through we chosen disciple's preachings, Dave J. and Teknetics will soon have to be parachuting supplies in to the UK to meet demands.

Alas, this great detector is so uncomplicated and idiot proof, that there is little to be 'discovered' or explained about its characteristics, especially to the intelligent guys on this forum, who've bought one.

So for me, contributing any meaningful technical posts on this gem of a detector, are limited, but I do enjoy the lighthearted reading produced by others.

Personally I am not the type who finds the need to only display the more exotic finds that are prevalent in UK detectorist's posts.
I prefer to post my bag of crap with the good bits still in there, and with the soil on them. If I've been lucky then I'll show the cleaned items later.

Truth is, I don't find much of exceptional calibre anyway!!

OK Bill, so what is the real reason for my addressing you so?

You obviously felt obliged to 'wave the yellow card' for the reasons you gave, but why do TRANSIENT posts such as mine and KC's bother you, when you pin PERMANENT posts of questionable technical merit at the top of the forum, without comment?

There's a whiff of 'double standards' in the air,,,,,

or maybe it's a sniff of the 'old pals under-arm deodorant 'nepotism''?

Are there "Two levels of discrimination on the T2 forum"..????

Yours respectfully.........MattR.UK.

Maybe we should have another T2 forum where we can enjoy the stories of the past and not always talk about the T2. And if we mixed the past with what we find today hey that would be a kick.

A lot of people are getting tired of how the forums are going I know there are forums just for that but a little mixing up is fine as far as I go. Very interesting stuff from the past.

Good Neighbors...in my very humble opinion, what detectorists need is a safe haven where we can sit down in the evening and talk to our gathering and include all members posts for what ever they are. Eventually....we will... on our own, pick and choose(Just like we do now!) the posts that we want to view.

I've been on forums for years, everyone wants to run them with an iron fist instead of allowing them to become a family affair!
Hey, it's the atmosphere of the forum that will either keep friends and family coming back or drifting away.

The ones that want to cause harassments or problems will be found out on their own merit!

I've really enjoyed posts from other detectorist and the pictures are awesome to see and stories are just plain great reads! Nothing I like better than reading my metal detecting magazines and stories....Why not a forum with a like atmosphere. A place where on a cold winter evening you can sit and share stories, finds, and maybe even have a nice distant family to visit and detect with all year long!
Long term.... T2 will die out and give way to other detectors....one day the forum will die , it's just a matter of time. However the family and friends we develope through interactions can last us a life time, Really that's the only thing thats better than detecting!
Again just my humble opinion.

Maybe a Forum called "The Tavern" where we troublemakers could congregate and cross chat about our multiline detector abilities, or our Old Town Outtings! Oh how sweet would that be for us old men!

The last I knew, this is what the forum was set up for.

I've been on forums for years, everyone wants to run them with an iron fist instead of allowing them to become a family affair!

I can understand what your saying, but this is a brand specific forum. Why are you coming on a brand specific forum and trying to turn it into a general discussion forum ? The forum was not set up to be a personal sounding board, or to be a family affair. If you want to consider it Iron Fisted, so be it. I considered it just removing a bunch of crap that should not have been posted, never mind the nasty posts that always follow.

I agree, my suggestion would be for those that feel the need for a general discussion forum is to start up their own. There's plenty of places that would host your request, free of charge. Dam, I would look forward to coming over to your forum, and acting the same as what I have seen here.

Lets go back to detecting, and hope that this doesn't turn into a nasty string of attacks that need to be deleted again.
