Keep the E-trac? or.........

I am sticking with the etrac.......it is your choice. I have had several people and 2 were dealers who told me, I would find anything more with it that what I am finding now
 
The E-trac is a fine for allarround machine, exept to dunck it in the water, so I will keep it for a perfect back up machine. (if the purchase of the 3030 is not on contendenci of seling the E-trac).

I have both and i am for sure not selling my ET , i find it easier and just as good as the CTX especially on the beach . The CTX may be waterproof but unless that and the other gumph Minelab put on it oyu would want i dont see the point ! save your money and have a holiday or buy coils and better protection for the ET , ET may be older but its still the same , just not the newest.

I bought a new coil for my ET and new covers and bits as in the last year its earned it , CTX has still to make
 
It would be kind of fun to wrap one around a telephone pole when you so frustrated with it and still have another to fall back on.
 
Unless you are out in all weathers and do huge amounts of detecting then as i said keep the ET, still as good as most or even all would need.
 
I cant stand my CTX. My back, knees and arms hurt from digging deep silver coins. And the junk man misses me bringing him odd pieces of aluminum and other scrap metal.
 
Do you find good coins with your Etrac? Do you find deep coins with your Etrac? How much trash do you dig?

Sure the CTX is an awesome machine but so is the Etrac. Do you feel like you would find a lot more with the CTX?

If you don't consider yourself "well accomplished" with the Etrac then I would never suggest a CTX. The CTX is a Great machine but not a miracle worker.
 
I've had a few fellow shooter's mention to me I need to pick up a CTX3030 and dump my Etrac because it's such an awesome machine as compared to the Etrac. well, from the finds I'm seeing, I don't see a reason to upgrade for another grand out of my pocket just to have the newest machine out there when I'm doing really well right now like last year. I'm still learning my machine, I've had it a little over a year and I feel I still have a ton to learn on it with settings, etc.

I just bought my latest coil about 3 months ago, and I would like to at least hunt awhile with it before I go and jump ship just to say I have a CTX....I've found 14 Silver for the year so far this year with my Etrac, that's not child's play.

I have yet to see much of a difference between the 2 machines out in the field from the forums I'm on...and, as a Hunter, I think that's a fairly unbiased opinion, unlike what I see sometimes when money is involved.
 
Perhaps the only real performance difference between the E-Trac and the CTX-3030 is not in depth but in ability to individually separate targets and thus deal with adjacent iron. Whether that benefit is worth the extra money is debatable.
 
The ctx has more things to play with (target trace- gps-water hunt and so on), but do not think it is constructed as well as the etrac, theres been some problems with shaft wear ,cracked handles , battery seal and a few more that dont come to mind at the moment. Only being able to use minelab coils is also a big deal to me. So for me I will keep the etrac and wait and see what happens as more time is put on the ctx 3030.
 
I guess its human nature to feel like you need to have the latest and greatest out there. When I got the E-trac I must admit that I wanted the best. I am pretty sure that a lot of people got theirs for the same reason. What I didnt expect was the amount of silver coins I would find with it. 2012 added 89 silvers to my collection along with a lot of firsts such as 2 cent pieces,1700s half reale,barber half,slqs,ect that had eluded me for the 30 years that I have been detecting. I had several dime and nickel trifectas lasy year. Penny quadfectas. When I bought the E-trac last year it was already a tested and proven winner. I think Ill wait a few years until I can see whether or not the CTX live up to the hype. Time will tell I am sure. Until then I will continue to learn MY:please: Etrac because I know I have only scrtached the surface of its abilities. Thank you all for the candid responses and helping me see the light. Get rid of my Etrac? Now thats crazy talk. HH
 
Parting with an Etrac would be one of those mistakes you wished you never would have made. My first detector was a Garrett Groundhog I bought in 1978. I sold it and bought a Garrett Masterhunter 7 in 1985. That was a fantastic machine that I sold to buy the next state of the art machine in 1993. That was a huge mistake. I had a total of 5 more machines up til last spring. I just could not find a machine I was happy with after having that Masterhunter 7. Then last spring I bought an Etrac. "WOW" I no longer crave the old Masterhunter 7. I added the X5 X8 and 13" Ultimate coils throughout the season. I am just like I was almost 30 years ago and cannot get enough detecting. Now I have added the CTX over the winter. There are some things I had wished for in the Etrac that are on the CTX. For me these are the 4 tone bins, waterproof, being able to switch between 2 modes with just one button and GPS. Luckily my area where I live was photographed from the air in 1938. You can get the corordinates off the Internet and put these into the xchange program. You can see the old country schools and farmhouses that have been long gone and after injecting these into the CTX you can walk right to those sites. I decided not to get rid of the Etrac and found things in my house that I thought I needed but did not and sold them on ebay and Craigslist over the winter to finance my CTX. The point here is you may wish you never got rid of the Etrac so try to find a way of buying the CTX straight out if you can. Several of my co-workers have a lot more money invested in their hobbies so I don't think metal detecting is that expensive of a hobby. Good luck on your decision.
