I have had a Vaquero for about eight months and I can't tell a difference in the sounds other than most coins I find are smooth and don't brake up when you sweep it different directions. Now that I have a 5.75 coil I get a little more feedback. With the smaller coil I can tell the size and shape alot better which is now mostly how I discriminate what I dig. If it is coin/ring size and doesn't brake up when I sweep it I will dig. This way I hunt as low of a discrimination as I can stand. ( usually between foil and nickel. depending on the site.) and dig all small repeatable target. I just wise I could distinguish the sounds of the tone like you guys can. May need more practice.
wheatymike,
Great post, probably the best of the "Kicking a Not so Dead Vaquero Horse" It sounds to me that you are learning the Vaquero very well and will find some good stuff if you continue to use this technique.
