ok for all my friends here, just got the news yesterday, i was told ill be having a full knee replacement in the next 6mos as soon as they can schedule it, now this may not be the right place for this but im sure theres some of you out there who has had this done, so my questions are these, how long did was you down from detecting? has it affected your detecting any now? worse or better? going into the not knowing, i dont wanna give up this hobby which ive grown to enjoy so much but this pain in my knee is so great i cannot walk the distance i want to anymore, any help here would be great, i just hope this doest get booted off??
thanks
john

My grandfather had both knees replaced at one point, he was more able to do things 3 months after than he had been for years. I should note though that he was extremely fit, healthy, and strong so the rehabilitation went very smoothly. His only regret about it was not having it done when they first started bothering him because the pain limited what he could do in a day for over 10 years, and didn't have a single issue for the 15 or 20 years he lived after.

The new procedures and devices are so much better than even 5 years ago. You will be up and detecting again a lot quicker than you think. Plus you will be able to do more without pain. Some of my relatives have had their knees replaced and they say they feel way better than they have felt in years. My one uncle says he walks a lot more now than he ever did. He is that pain free. He even plays basketball and is pretty good at 74 years old. He says his new knees made him feel like he did when he was 20.

Don't worry, you'll be back.

John, I had both of my knee's replaced at the same time about 5 years ago. I still do everything I did before, even though I am not supposed to.The only problem is getting down on my knees to dig. If I know that I am going detecting, I wear foam knee pads under my trousers. This helps a lot. Good Luck. Charles

thanks guys, not knowing what to expect is a bit freighting ,I'm sure all will be better once this will be done, this pain is just the grief of it tho, I'm only 52 but feel and walk like I'm allot older at times, my last beach hunt at Myrtle beach was about it, pain pills in pocket, tried to walk 14 miles of beach but only made 7 1/2 miles before i had to call the wife to pick me up,just couldn't do the rest..maybe after i get this knee replaced ill try again next year 2012 ?? ill keep everyone posted..
thanks for the info
