l0" Hot Foot coil

Member
Has anyone on this forum had experience with the 10" Hot Foot coil (as opposed to the Big Foot?). I have one and have used it but not too successfully. I seem to go back to the 5.3 for coins. What am I doing wrong, if anything?

I'm a coin shooter who lives in a part of the Country with moderately mineralized soil. As such, I don't need the design benefits of a DD coil. I find the concentrics will hunt deeper for me than a comparably sized DD. However, I do have a HotFoot. In my opinion, when hunting in trashy environments, the HotFoot separates targets much better than even the 5.3. I just accept the fact that it probably won't hunt as deep. Having hunted for over 36 years, I'm convinced there are more old coins still hiding out there due to target masking, as opposed to depth issues. JMHO HH Randy

I agree with Randy that the Hotfoot is excellent at target separation. I also like it for it's coverage and light weight. It may not go very deep, but it's a great little clad killer! To sum it up, it trumps the 5.3 in both coverage and separation, but gives up depth.

Thanks, guys, that's about what I suspected. I'll keep using it and keep the 5.3. You can't have too many coils, lol. Frank L/TX
