Labor Day Hunt......

Grace and I went to Lake MI and met up with Mike from Chicago and his buddy Jerry from South Haven, MI. Finds were slim and after a little over 3 hours my batteries went dead so Grace and I went to the van to get more and have a PB&J sandwich and a drink before going back to the lake. I unloaded my pouch and had about $3.00 in clad and one big Tungsten Carbide wedding band. Got down to the lake and found Mike and Jerry were going to hit the road. Had fun hunting with them as usual. Grace and I went back to where we left off because we were getting shells, fossils, and deep targets. Dug another Tungsten band, and later a little sterling ring. Got a kids charm gizmo, more fossils, some more clad, a car, and lead thing with the word Taste on it? Ended the day with more keepers then trash. This is Grace's last day before school starts tomorrow. What a great day!

Now here is the flip side. This was Fridays hunt with two other friends and Grace at an inland lake. 92 junk items and only a few keepers. My one friend did find a heavy 18K ear ring though. Still had a blast! :twodetecting:

Good hunt for you all. Lots of targets. Those carbide rings would probably last forever in water.
I dug 33 coins and 1 sterling ring today.

Steve in so az

That only diamonds are harder than tungsten carbide. WTG on the silver ring.

Glad both of you (Mike & Steve) could get out, enjoy the hobby, and family. I've been feeling considerably better the last couple of days and looking forward to getting out again soon. Anyone that thinks you simply dig the 'Good Stuff' without digging a bucket of trash is so mistaken and doesn't understand what we go through to find the good targets; not to mention cleaning the beach as we go along. There have been times I walked to the trash bins carrying several large plastic shopping bags full of junk people leave on the beach or other places I've hunted. Both of you, Mike & Steve, are wonderful examples of what this hobby is all about and I'm glad to now you both.
