Labor Day Weekend Gold! :detecting:

Gus in idaho

New member
My father and I decided to spend our labor day weekend down in good old Rye Patch Nevada.
It was hot for most of the trip. 1 day reached triple digits.
I spent most of my time down in the washes where there are still some faint targets down deep.
I ended up with 13 nuggets, and Dad just beat the skunk with a nice 3 grammer.

There is a nugget down there.

A solid 2 gram.

Dad is down 6" and its still there, it has to be gold.

A nice 3 grammer.

Our poke for the trip.

Our nugget total for the trip was right around a half ounce.

Hi Gus,

Being with your Dad, and finding gold is a really neat thing...:twodetecting:

Of course it would be nice if he found a little more...:clapping:

~LARGO~

Gus, Thanks for sharing your story and photos.
It is so funny to hear of all the so called Nugget Hunters say "Rye Patch is worked out and no gold left", when in fact I find it there every time I go.
You have certainly taken my Field Training to heart and your efforts have paid off. If more of the people who buy and use these machines would spend some quality time learning what a deep nugget really sounds like, they too would be able to share Success Stories more often.

I am glad your dad was there to enjoy the trip with you together and it is nice to see him dig a good nugget on occasion.

The photos show some really gorgeous nuggets and it looks as if a couple of them are nice Chevrons?

I'll be down there in October Training more customers on what the GP's can do and How to Find Deep Gold.

Great post & thanks for sharing.

Here is a photo of us all on the June trip we took.

There must be some $40,000 worth of detectors and coils in this photo.

With gold over $700 an ounce, you would think we could pay for a coil or two?

Enjoy.

Gus that is some real nice gold. I went down there last weekend, but I didn't do quite as good as you did, but I still managed to find 3 pieces two at .3 grams and 1 at 1 gram. my hunting partner and my wife didn't have any luck at all. he showed up out there with two flats and my wife showed up there with one flat and neither of them found any gold.

Nice photos.
Rye Patch looks like the sort of ground I like to detect in.
Can you find gold anywhere there or are the patches small?
Alan

Alan,
The gold at Rye-Patch is salt and peppered all throughout the alluvial fans, However you can find nice patches.
The biggest patch I have found there was 65 nuggets. Most of them under 1 gram.
The best patch I have found there I found around 25 nuggets for a total of around 3-4 ounces.

Rye patch has been hammered. Most of the easy nuggets have been taken.
But there is still a crap load of gold there, just under detector range. I think as long as they keep improving detectors and getting better depth out of them, Rye-patch will continue to produce nuggets for years to come.
You can still find the occasional 5-6 grammer and inch or two down, but they are rare.
I focus on the faint signals that everyone passes by.
I learned this technique by a dear friend and detecting genius "Gerry McMullen" He is a pro, and an excellent teacher.

Most of the gold in this photo came from Rye-patch.

Bcollins,
Glad you found some AU at RP.
Sorry to hear about your flat tire experiences.
I have had my fair share of those. In fact I got 2 flat tires in 2 different trips in the exact same spot in the road.
I just got some 10-ply tires put on to my truck, so hopefully I wont get a flat anytime soon.
Keep swinging and way to go!!
Gus-

AU-good-buddie-Marc,
I wish you could have been there with us too.
We were hoping to see Mitchell down there but he was not to be found. We had a good time, dad gets alittle frustrated when I seem to be the only one finding it, but at least he pulled out a nice piece to go home with.
You coming down for Gerry's RP training adventure in October?
Hopefully we can meet up then. (and chugg some whiskey)
Later Bro,
Gus-

A closer shot of dads Nugget!!!

Gerry,
There are other places I know where I can go to find AU, but for some reason I love to look at my RP nuggets the most.
They are just neat, and full of character. And Rye-Patch nuggets have a reputation and will sell for more than other dull or boring nuggets.
I cant remember where I saw it but, online somewhere I saw a beautiful chevron 6 gram RP nugget sell for $800 (thats a few times spot.)
Plus the terrain there is so nice for detecting, not steep, previously burned so there is not alot of brush to tend with.
And MOST people are skipping right over those deep little nuggies that are just waiting for someone with a trained ear to swing across.
Thank you Gerry for training me how to find those ones.
Gus-

Largo,
Yeah dad is my hunting partner. He has always been there for me, and we share a huge unbreakable bond. I have tried everything I know to help him find more gold. BUT, often times he will end up finding one bigger than all the gold I have found that particular trip put together. He has done it more than once.
I have seen some of your posts before, maybe we will meet down in Nevada one day.
You have found some beauties at RP.

Gus-

Yes, it does sound like nice detecting country.
I've seen a few pics of Rye Patch and its always appealed to me.
I like those quiet sounds and thats basicly what I listen for all the time.
Ive been beeping mostly the same ground for many years and I continually surprise myself with what I find.
I guess its like anything else, the more you do it the better you get. Also keeping up with the new developments helps.
Alan
