Hello everyone i am a newbie to this sport and love so far i bought the safari and been trying to get the ## and sounds down and been digging alot here is the question the screen lags or lock up from time to time is this normal, I could pass over a target get a # & sound then pass over the same target and get a sound but no screen # change pass a different target sound change # stays the same then after a few sec it go back to normal were # & sounds change when passing different targets.

Been digging junkyard parks some sand (volleyball pk)

Welcome to the forum, yeah its normal pay the big bucks get the fast processor in the E trac pay a little less get a slower processor in the Safari. :punch: No worriers though swing slow and still
make great finds. HH, Dale

Slowing down will make a big difference in it's performance.Take your time.Took me a while to learn to go slower. The slower you go you will hear more signals and be able to choose between them.Slowing down will help you hear the deeper signals.Keep at it you will get better. Remember good signals will repeat.(most of the time) Iv'e got my Safari about two summers.Still learning it.What a machine! Love it.

Ok I am new to Safari as well and noticed lag as well. Tones are much more responsive . On another post someone mentioned that raising the coil helps they said that it is often a stronger signal dominating display and raising coil clears the target field. I wonder if the explorer does the same. Biggest point hunt by tones not TID

Hate to break your bubble same processor in Etrac as in Safari, you have higher pixel screen and more selections, some useful, some not, maybe all those extra functions and computer connections are slowing your Etrac maybe you should buy Safari maybe it works faster than your Etrac.I owned an Etrac for almost 2 years minelab screens are not known for there speed.Lets face it, until the response or faster recovery of null is improved on all minelab detectors it is like putting perfume on a pig you get what you get.

Yes, there is always a lag in the screen numbers. This is normal for Safari. Best thing to do in my opinion is after you determine it is a repeatable signal, just hold your coil off to the side of the target like a foot away and hold it still. The number of the target always comes up. This is the quickest way I know because if you keep passing it over the target it has to think alll over again. Sometimes the numbers will come up as you find your target, but just hold that coil STILL off to the side for about 3 seconds and the number will come up. I do it all the time not a problem.
ALSO, if you really feel like moving swiftly You CAN. You might, I say might, miss some deeper targets but if you really need to move ( such as out in a huge field where you are not sure of the history etc) You can move fast, BUT as soon as you hear a chirp or beep then go over that SLOWLY to determine what it is. If you find a hot spot, then you can always slow down and zero in on it. Try this experiment...drop or bury a dime or something and pass the coil over it quickly. You WILL get a beep. So just check out all those beeps. I tend to go faster in huge fields and slower on old house properties. It's a judgement call. Just my humble input into the discussion! Hope this helps. Using this technique I pulled up two large cents yesterday 1808 and 1820. You have to weigh your time with the place that your in and decide what it is worth to you. But going at a good pace does not negate finding stuff. (I don't mean running!)
