Had a 2 1/2 hour hunt window this morning so hit the spot my buddy and I have been hunting of late. Haven't posted much of late as the silver coming from this spot is mostly Rosie dimes with the occasional Merc thrown in. My buddy has gotten the only silver quarter from the spot, a Washington. We have hit a couple of Buffalo nickels from the spot and figured a war nickel might show up at some point.
This morning I did get a 43P war nickel, a 37d Merc and a 54 Rosie along with 3 wheats. Not to long after digging the Rosie I had worked my way to the back of this particular area and got a faint 88-91 reading that repeated on every sweep. I'm not much for analyzing a target, so went for it. My pin pointer finally found the target at a easy 8" deep. Moved a little more dirt and saw the edge of something silver looking. I quickly realized it wasn't a coin, but a spoon. It had kind of a dull look to it and was sticking straight up and down with the spoon end up. Wiggled it a little and pulled it out noting the engraving and its smokey look, turned it over and spotted Gorman Sterling. The handle is slightly bent and cracked. My wiggling may have cracking culprit, but not sure.
The round disc has some detail on it and probably is the lid to a compact.
This has been a fun spot and while only junk jewelry and newer era silver is showing up, silver is silver and we both feel its just a matter of time for a good jewelry piece. Good hunting all. HH jim tn
