Sorry to go MIA, but I hadn't been out detecting in nearly a month and a half. My hunting buddy Greg and his fiance were on vacation in Germany for most of that time and I buried myself neck deep with work. But we headed out yesterday and today to make sure we still know how to use our machines. The old town we have been hunting is running out of favorable properties that we haven't hunted. Yesterday I found my oldest silver to date with the 57' seated quarter there, pre-dating the town by 23 years. It is pretty smooth and looks to have been in circulation for quite some time. Greg was skunked. He wanted to redeem himself with a return trip today so i obliged. The property owner of the first house today told us that the yard had been hunted before but we could give it a shot anyway. Apparently they missed a spot. The no date SLQ was in the wide open and not masked, any machine could have hit it at 4 or 5 inches. Then a few feet away came one of my more intriguing finds this year, the silver peanut with removable cap. Inside appears to be a blueish makeup powder, about an eighth full still. It looks like there is a hallmark on the inside band of the cap next to some writing. I can't find anything on this on the internet. It is not marked sterling or .925 but still easily passed the nitric/muriatic acid test for silver, and doesn't appear to be plated. Any info from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks, and I look forward to catching up on all your recent posts. JJ

We were about to call it a day when I got a really deep sounding semi high junk tone repeatable from all directions. I don't know how deep but It was one of the deeper coins I have dug in a while, probably close to 11 or 12 inches. I was surprised because normally when I dig that deep for a smaller target, I can no longer hit it with the coil after a good amount of dirt is removed from the hole, leaving me to fend for myself with the x-1 probe. The seated was repeatable with the 10x12 SEF regardless of how much dirt I removed, up until I found it with the probe. At first I thought it was a utility box punch out because it was so smooth. Then I saw a reeded edge. About then, the property owner's wife came out to give us the evil eye one last time so we left. A little rinse under the water revealed what I thought was a barber quarter at first, with only a small section showing. Then he turned it over and I could make out the seated outline. I knew it was a smoothie but prayed a date would show up when I cleaned it up. Luckily there was still enough there to make out the 57'. TC, JJ
